Hall of Fame
As the founder of cross country and track and field at Ramapo, along with his incredible running abilities, William Boyajian is being inducted into the Hall of Fame. After a stellar running career at Hasbrouck Heights High School, which included 2nd Team All-League honors and the title of captain, Boyajian knew upon arriving at Ramapo, he wanted that success to be a part of his college resume. Along with teammate, Fred Sandura, Boyajian presented a plan to college administrators that included funding requirements, in hopes that his dream of running in college could come true. In 1972, his dream became reality and the first ever Roadrunner Cross?Country Program went .500 overall, competing against established colleges. Boyajian became a crucial part of the program’s development helping to create a course, schedule opponents and recruit top athletes from New Jersey. After the sudden passing of his friend and teammate, Boyajian was honored with the 1st Fred Sandura Memorial Award for his leadership in cross country and track and field and was named captain for his senior season. He was an avid runner competing in numerous marathons including the Boston and NY City Marathons. He spent time volunteering at the NY City Marathon and the World Cross Country Championships held at the Meadowlands. He graduated in 1975 with a bachelors of science, before going on to earn a masters in computer science from Stevens Tech in 1982. He resides in Somerset with his wife Karen and has three children, Lisa, Kevin, and Renae.
