LIGHTNING DETECTION SYSTEM

Lightning

Ramapo College Athletic Center facilities are equipped with an early warning lighting detection system.  The Strike Guard System detects and tracks lightning strikes and provides a warning if lighting is detected within a 10 mile radius.

ALERTS
When the system detects lightning within 10 miles of our facility, they system will provide warning with a 60 second siren and a flashing strobe light. If you hear the siren and/or see the light, you should seek shelter immediately.

When the system no longer detects a threat and it is safe to resume activities, the siren will sound three, 5-second blasts and the strobe light will turn off indicating it is safe to resume outdoor activity.

This warning system strobe light is operational 24 hours a day / 7 days a week.  The siren will only be active during the hours of 7am to 10pm.

REMEMBER
Although each one of us is responsible for our own safety, we utilize this sophisticated lightning detection system to provide additional warning when dangerous conditions are detected.  No system is fail-proof. You should always assess weather conditions before going outside and be prepared to take appropriate actions needed to ensure safety. It is up to you to do your due diligence in order to protect yourself.
