    Ice Hockey, Head Coach
In 1972, at the time when Jim Barrow served as the Director of Computer Services at Ramapo College, a group of students approached Barrow about starting a ice hockey team at the college. With great enthusiasm for the sport, and with minimal funding, a $1,000 grant from the Student Government Sports Council, Barrow made it happen. After Fall tryouts, where 19 players made the team, Barrow led the program to its first victory over New Jersey College of Medicine, 5-1. The team finished the year at 9-7-1 becoming the first athletic team to post a winning season. Barrow stayed on as head coach and led the Roadrunners to a 12-4-4 overall record in their first season (1973-74) competing in the NJIHL (New Jersey Intercollegiate Hockey League). The team finished in fourth place, just four-points shy of first place, but enough for their first playoff appearance. In 1974-75, the NJIHL, renamed the BSIHL (Bi-State Intercollegiate Hockey League), reorganized the league to include 12 collegiate teams from the area. The Roadrunners went 23-7-1 that year, and won the BSIHL Championship, the first championship in the history of the college. In 1975-76, Barrow served as the team’s General Manager, watching the Roadrunners earn a second championship, with a 30-game unbeaten streak, and a 15-game winning streak, earning 29 overall wins and just one loss. He was one of Ramapo’s, and ice hockey’s biggest athletic supporters from 1971-1979. Barrow resides in Mesa, Arizona and has four children, Michael, Bryan, Laura, and Lynsey.
