Malik El-Amin came to Ramapo College as a wrestling star, a sport he had mastered at Barringer High School in Newark, New Jersey.

He joined the Ramapo College Club Wrestling program and won three of the four matches. The following year in 1980, the wrestling program folded. The football coaches saw plenty of aggressiveness in El-Amin, convincing him to play football, a sport, he had never played.

His first season playing football, he became a special team playmaker, leading the team in special teams tackles with 42. The following season in 1981, he became the starting defensive end and led the team in total tackles with 101, unassisted tackles 72 and set a team record with 13 quarterback sacks.  For his success on the field he was named First Team All-State (NJSAC) at defensive end.

His 1982 season was cut short, as El-Amin broke his leg in two places, missing the entire season.  During his return in 1983, El-Amin led the team in total tackles with 84, unassisted tackles 59 and quarterback sacks with ten.  He was once again named First Team All-State (NJSAC) at defensive end. He was named captain as a sophomore and led the team for three straight years, (1981-1983).

In 1996, he became the first ever coordinator of the Ramapo College Math and Science Program and served until 2002.

For 28 years, he directed the Unified Vailsburg Services Teen Program, located in the heart of Newark, retiring in 2018 as the Teen Director.
