After a basketball career at Leonia High School, a post-graduate year at Tilton School in New Hampshire, and a year at Springfield College, Pat Morris opted to transfer closer to home, to Ramapo, where he was to become an important member of a competitive Roadrunner basketball team. Pat spent a year “sitting out” while waiting to become eligible to play. The year was worth the wait. Over the course of his career he made great contributions to the program, shooting over 50% from the field, and setting records for rebounds in a season and in a career.
As a senior in 1979 Pat Morris was a recipient of the ECAC Scholar Athlete award, recognizing outstanding contributions in the classroom as well as on the hardwood.
How much of an impact did Ramapo basketball have on the life of Pat Morris? It was at Ramapo that he met his wife Jill (Mironov) who was a member of the Lady Roadrunners women’s basketball team. In addition, it was at Ramapo where he became a friend and teammate to his now brother-in-law Don Griego.
Among his fondest memories, Pat includes “beating Marist College, a larger school with a successful program (despite their intention to have an easy win over the Roadrunners).” Perhaps his favorite personal memory highlights includes being selected to play in the New Jersey College All Star game at Seton Hall University, and scoring the game-winning basket in overtime. How better to finish a career!
Presently he resides in Greenwich, NY with his wife Jill and two sons who both excel in basketball. He is employed as a school counselor.
