For thirteen years, Dr. Rosabel Koss played a significant role in the growth of both physical education and teacher education at Ramapo College. She arrived here when much of the campus was nothing more than dirt piles. Among her first tasks, she was asked to search for an athletic director and ultimately selected Dr. Robert Hartman to be Ramapo’s first Athletic Director.
In her academic and administrative leadership role as Director of the Teacher Education/ Physical Education Unit, she helped to create the first several courses for Ramapo’s physical education division and facilitated the creation of sports teams for basketball, ice hockey and golf. She also played a significant role in the design of the College’s original athletic complex and was part of the group that chose the Roadrunner and the school’s original colors of red and gold.
Besides her contributions to athletics, she also has a strong sense of tradition for Ramapo. She was on staff almost from the very beginning of Ramapo’s distinguished history. Among her professional honors she holds the rank of Professor Emeritus at Ramapo. This is included in a lengthy, impressive entry in her name in Who’s Who in America, 2001.
