A four-year member of the Ramapo College football team, Clavon Byrd served as the running back and defensive back for the two-time Football Bowl Champions in 1977 and 1978.  Byrd was a member of the 1978 ranked National Club Football Team that stood at #1 by the National Collegiate Football Association.  Byrd’s first touch down run, of 63 yards vs. Scranton in 1977 was but the first of many long distance scampers for this Hall of Fame Inductee.  Much of the offenses’ success was due to his abilities as a kickoff returner allowing the offense often times to play on a “Short Field”.  In 1980 as the Roadrunners moved to the NCAA Division III level of play, Byrd moved to the defensive secondary and solidified the defensive unit. He enabled the unit to continue its tradition of defensive play. The 1978 season became the most notable as the team compiled a 9-1 win-loss record. They posted more than 320 points with the defense only allowing 93 points on the year. Byrd graduated with a bachelor of science in business administration in 1983 and currently serves as the Regional Manager for Nexus Technology out of Deer Park, LI.  He resides in Paterson with his wife Ardena.
