Mary Hendricks came to Ramapo in 1985 and was a member of the cross-country, winter track, and spring track teams all four years despite never running before going to college. Head Coach Steve Grube, who was restarting the program at the time, convinced Mary to join the team. Mary quickly made an impact at the college recording numerous records in winter and spring track. In 1987, her junior year, Mary ran an impressive race at the Stony Brook Invitational coming out on top in the 5,000-meter run. She was named a member of the NJAC All-Conference team in the 5,000-meter and 10,000-meter while posting five dual meet wins on the cross-county course in the same year. She was named the champion at the Roadrunner Cross-Country Invitational and was the only NJAC woman in ‘87 to receive All-Mid-East honors. Mary was also the first Division III finisher in the TAC USA National Championship. She received numerous high honors throughout her career such as NJAC All-Conference and All-New Jersey. She topped off her career with a Top Ten finish at the NCAA Mid-East Regionals falling just one place short of qualifying for nationals. Mary was a superb athlete at Ramapo College who worked hard to succeed in her sport. After college she continued a successful running career while making a living as an Occupational Therapist.
