A three-year member of the baseball team, John Spazante quickly made his mark as one of top rated pitchers among the Ramapo College Roadrunners. Spazante was a member of the 1984 Division III College World Series Championship Team, earning the save in the final game as his team posted a 5-4 victory over Marietta. He finished the year with 12 wins and only one loss, while the team posted one of the best records in the history of the program at 35-11 overall. In that same season he was named 1st Team All-American, All-District, All-Conference and NJACC Division III Pitcher of the Year for his efforts on the mound. He recorded a 1.27 ERA which still stands today as one of the top ERAs in the program’s history. He is second on the all-time leader board for strikeouts in a season, tallying 101 during the ‘84 season. After his exceptional career with the Roadrunners, Spazante was drafted by the Houston Astros in June of ‘84 in the 16th round. Spazante is married to his wife Patty and has two children, Stephen (20) and Emily (17).
