From the Roadrunner football program, Brian Scantlebury transferred to Ramapo College in 1977 from Doane College (University) in Nebraska where he earned the starting cornerback position after just two games of his freshman year.  In his first season at Ramapo, Scantlebury helped Ramapo to an 8-2 record overall, and the #2 national ranking in the NCFA, culminating in a 13-7 win over Providence College in the 1977 Heritage Bowl.  That season he was selected as a First Team All-American cornerback by the National Collegiate Football Association.  He was a member and team captain of the 1978 team that won the National Collegiate Football Association Championship.  He averaged six tackles and three assisted tackles per game with a total of six interceptions and 100 return yards. As a standout punt and kick returner, he averaged 20 yards per return for the Roadrunners. Although suffering an injury plagued year, he was the leader of the secondary in tackles with 24 on the season. Scantlebury joined the coaching staff as a defensive back coach in 1979, and graduated in 1980 with a degree in political science.
