What do you do after four years of varsity ball in high school where you lead your team in scoring every year? Shonda Nicholas found herself in this very situation and chose to bring her obvious talents to Ramapo College. Over the next four seasons she scored over 1000 points and was selected to all-tournament, all-conference, regional and All-American teams.
As was the case for so many who attended Ramapo, Shonda Nicholas chose to attend because the College was close to home and she loved the beautiful campus and the surrounding area, especially the Reservation.
For all of those next four seasons she would be a starter, a leader on the offense and a valued member of a very successful and cohesive squad. As if the basketball wasn’t special enough, she especially enjoyed being part of a collection of athletes who bonded even more when they remained on campus during the winter holidays in preparation for games. She especially enjoyed playing on a team coached by a “quiet giant” named Michael Ricciardi.
After Ramapo she went on to work in public service. In addition she entered into studies in the ministry. In addition she continued to pursue interests in the creative arts and with various volunteer causes.
She is currently employed as the Program Coordinator for an HIV/AIDS prevention and care services program in Newark, NJ.
