Hall of Fame
Doug Meeks was the first “All American” for Ramapo College in any sport back in 1976. That season he finished nationally in the top 10.
He was a top high school golfer for Northern Valley Old Tappan High School – his decision to attend Ramapo paved the way for other fine recruits. He was a member of the first Ramapo team that ever went to a national championship. He was also a NJ State College Conference champion for 3 seasons.
Among his memories he recalls coming to campus to meet the Golf Coach in person. He had long hair and ripped jeans and certainly ”did not look like a golfer.” He also recalled the Rider Invitational sudden death playoff against Temple when he won his very first college golf trophy.
Doug Meeks attended Ramapo for two and a half years but did not graduate. Instead he chose to begin his pro golfing career. Hall of Fame induction is not new to Doug – he is already a member of Old Tappan HS Hall Of Fame.
Other than a stint in the roofing and contracting business, he has been a club pro for most of his career and has made his living as a PGA Pro in New Jersey. He has been a course pro at a number of country clubs in the area and in 1993 he became the club pro at Old Tappan Country Club. He and his wife Lisa, live in Old Tappan with his son (a golfer for Old Tappan High School) and daughter.
