MANIGRASSO LEADS RAMAPO OVER WPU, 4-2

Mahwah, NJ:  Jayne Manigrasso led the Ramapo College field hockey team to a 4-2 NJAC win over rival William Paterson University today at the Athletic Center. The Roadrunners now stand at 9-5 overall, 1-4 in the conference while the Pioneers fall to 3-13 overall, 1-4 in the NJAC.

Jaclyn Bertos scored the first goal of the game for WPU, 1:14, off a pass from Jessica Nendze before the Roadrunners were awarded a penalty stroke. Manigrasso stepped to the line and fired a shot past the keeper to tie the game at one in the 18th minute of play.

Manigrasso posted her second goal of the game, on a breakaway in front of the goalie, for her tenth goal of the season to take a 2-1 lead with 20:01 on the clock. The Roadrunners would never be down again in the game as Katie Bruno posted her ninth goal of the year off a rebound shot to extend the lead, 3-1. Manigrasso would run down a loose ball on the end line before passing it to Victoria Ahlers, who hit the back of the cage for the 4-1 lead with 26:14 on the clock, her eighth goal of the season.

WPU would score again in the second half, 56:09, when Lauren Boegly teamed up with Ally Hartman for Boegly's fifth goal of the season to come within 4-2. The Ramapo defense and goalkeeper Rebecca Elliott would keep WPU off the board the rest of the game to preserve the win.

Elliott posted nine saves in the complete game for Ramapo while Meghan Trivett and Kellye Statz combined for six saves for WPU.  Ramapo out shot the Pioneers, 20-19 while WPU held an 8-4 advantage in penalty corners.

Ramapo returns to action when they host SUNY New Paltz on Saturday at 1:00pm.
