Mahwah, NJ: The Stockton University field hockey team came back to defeat Ramapo College tonight at the Athletic Center in NJAC action, 4-1. The Ospreys improve to 9-7 overall and 2-1 in the NJAC while the Roadrunners now stand at 3-9 overall and 0-3 in the league.
Carlee Thompson scored the first of her two goals in the game in the first quarter to put the Ospreys on the board, 1-0. A pass from Brooke Ruiz just 2:01 into the game gave Stockton the lead. The Ramapo defense was amazing tonight as they kept Stockton off the board through the next 51 minutes of the game which allowed the Roadrunners to tie the game up in the fourth quarter. Emily Getz and the Ramapo defense held Stockton to just one goal over the next two quarters as the Ospreys earned 13 total penalty corners in the third quarter alone. Stockton was also awarded a penalty stroke in the 38th minute (37:10) as Getz came up big with a save for the Roadrunners.
In the fourth quarter, Ramapo would tie the game at one with a goal from
Kelly Zeman, her second of the season, in the 47th minute (46:38), 1-1. Stockton would break the tie game late in the fourth quarter with a goal from Kirsten Bailey, her eighth of the season as Thompson earned the assist. Thompson would score the team's third goal in the 56th minute with a penalty stroke goal before Jessica Bruther added the fourth goal in the 59th minute with an assist from Olivia Catalano, 4-1. Stockton recorded 33 shots including 13 on goal while they earned 18 penalty corners in the game. The Roadrunners tallied five shots in the game with four being on goal while they tallied three penalty corners. Erika Roura posted three saves for Stockton while Getz collected nine in goal for the Roadrunners.
Ramapo returns to action on Oct. 21st when they travel to Kean University for a NJAC game at 7:30 PM.
