New Paltz, NY: The State University of New York at New Paltz field hockey team (9-7) eased past visiting Ramapo College (6-9) in non-conference action Saturday at the Turf Field, besting the Roadrunners by a count of 5-2 on Senior Day.
With the victory, the Hawks set the program record for wins in a season with nine. The 2009 and 2004 editions of the program shared the former record of eight.
In addition, with a three-assist outing, senior defender Alyssa Finck (Hudson, N.Y.) set the program mark for assists in a game. The former record of two was achieved 14 times.
Junior forward Maryana Organidis (Belford, N.J.) scored one goal and added a pair of assists, both of which came off of penalty corners. Freshman forward Alana Costenbader (Whitehall, Pa.) had a goal and an assist, as did senior midfielder Lauren Nicomini (Newton, N.J.).
For Ramapo,
Amanda Barretta (Roseland, NJ) scored her 13th and 14th goals of the season, accounting for the entire Roadrunner scoring output.
Nicomini opened scoring just 1:44 into the contest, rattling the back of the cage off of a penalty corner. Organidis and Finck also were credited with assists on the play. Organidis doubled the tally in the 17th minute, burying a centering pass from Costenbader.
Sophomore defender Amy Lee (Farmington, Conn.) recorded her first score of the season in the 27th minute, cashing in on a feed from Finck from just inside the circle.
Before the break, Ramapo's Barretta answered with a high shot that went to the upper right-hand corner of the cage, putting the Roadrunners on the board in the 32nd minute.
Costenbader scored off of the Organidis-to-Finck penalty corner connection in the 39th minute, while Barretta registered her second goal of the game off of a
Rachel Seidman (Somerset, NJ) pass in the 67th minute.
Right before time expired in the second half, sophomore forward Morgan Lizotte (New City, N.Y.) scored off of a Nicomini pass from the right wing.
New Paltz outshot Ramapo by a 20-12 margin, including a 14-8 edge in the second half. The Hawks also took 16 penalty corners to the Roadrunners' eight.
Rebecca Elliott (Brick, NJ) stopped a game-high nine shots in the cage for Ramapo. Senior goalkeeper Elizabeth Dini (Sayville, N.Y.) captured the win with a seven-save effort patrolling the Hawks' goal.
Prior to the start of the contest, the team honored its four seniors—forward Sarah Schloss (Brant Lake, N.Y.), Nicomini, Finck and Dini.
