WILLIAM PATERSON SLIPS BY RAMAPO, 3-2

Mahwah, NJ:  The Lady Roadrunners faced off with the Pioneers of William Paterson University today in a New Jersey Athletic Conference field hockey match-up at the Athletic Center. The Pioneers came away with their first NJAC win of the season, 3-2. Ramapo falls to 6-7, 1-2 in the conference while the Pioneers improve to 8-7, 1-2 in the conference.

The Roadrunners opened the scoring in the first half with a goal just over four minutes in when sophomore Jayne Manigrasso (Atlantic Highlands, NJ) took a pass from fellow sophomore Rebecca Penhaker (Wantage, NJ) taking a 1-0 lead.  Manigrasso's goal was her 15th of the year.

The lead was short lived after the Pioneers were awarded a penalty stroke at 13:55, that was put away by Melissa Szeliga (South Plainfield, NJ) to tie the game at one goal apiece.

Manigrasso struck again just under one minute later with an unassisted goal, for a 2-1 Roadrunner lead.  In the 21st minute, Christina Ayusa (Runnemede, NJ) hit the back of the cage, scoring her 8th goal of the season, off a pass from Amanda Sheehan (Boonton, NJ), tying the game for the second time.

Ramapo had one more opportunity before the intermission, with a penalty stroke with 12 minutes to play in the half, but senior net-minder Christina Auger (Wayne, NJ), denied the shot from sophomore defender Megan Boise (Budd Lake, NJ) to keep the game tied at two.

Ramapo held a 13-9 edge in shots in the first 35 minutes of play while rookie goalkeeper Rebecca Elliot (Brick, NJ) blocked four shots facing five on goal.  Auger made seven saves with nine shots faced.

Ramapo out shot William Paterson, 24-14 in the game and in penalty corners, 14-4. Auger finished with 14 saves while Elliot finished with eight.

The Roadrunners return to action when they travel to Montclair State University for a 7:00 NJAC game on October 28th while the Pioneers travel to NJAC rival Stockton College on October 22nd at 7:30 PM.
