WESTCONN BLANKS #8 RAMAPO IN GAME ONE, ROADRUNNERS WIN GAME TWO

Mahwah, NJ:  The Ramapo College softball team split a non-conference double header against the Colonials of Western Connecticut State University today, 0-8 and 9-5. The Roadrunners are now 12-2 on the season while the Colonials are 10-4.

WestConn would score first, as Kristen Lugovich (West Haven, CT) singled to left field and moved to second on a sacrifice before Courtney Romyns (Newton, NJ) singled to right field to pick up the RBI for a 1-0 lead. In the fourth inning the Colonials picked up seven runs on four hits and one Ramapo error for an 8-0 lead. The bases were loaded with one out when the ball was misplayed in the outfield allowing everyone to advance and one run to cross the plate. A walk and single up the middle plated three more runs before back-to-back doubles by Loren Angiolillo (Wolcott, CT) and Lugovich scored four more for the Colonials.

The Roadrunners couldn't push a run across to extend the game, as they were shutout for the second time this season. Starting pitcher Katie Norton (Livingston, NJ) picked up the loss falling to 4-2 on the year.

In game two, Ramapo came back strong pounding out 12 hits and scoring nine runs to pick up their 12th victory of the season. Rookie Rachel Wong (Livingston, NJ) and senior Lauren Cascino (New Windsor, NY) reached base on a single and double respectively before junior Marilee Farmer (Toms River, NJ) recorded a sacrifice groundout to score Wong. Junior Kelly Schriber (Montclair, NJ) then singled home Cascino for a 2-0 lead. Rookie Cherese Matthews (Pequannock, NJ) drove a pitch over the right-centerfield wall for her first collegiate career homerun in the second inning to pad the Ramapo lead at 3-0.

The Roadrunners scored six runs on five hits in the fourth to take a 9-0 lead before WestConn came back with five runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning. Amy Hartman (Ellington, CT) ripped a two out three-run home run over the right field fence to plate Lugovich and Romyns who singled and walked earlier in the inning. Brittany Connors (Waterford, CT) singled home Meghan Mammone (Stamford, CT) who reached on a single to center field before Rebecca Andruskiwec (Orange, CT) scored on a pass ball. Ramapo starter Heather Camb (Totowa, NJ) would get Katelyn Farrell (Stratford, CT) to strike out looking to end the inning, 9-5.

Rookie Lyndsay Buehler (River Vale, NJ) would come in to relieve Camb at the start of the fifth inning and finish the game, striking out six without giving up a hit or walk. Camb recorded three strikeouts, improving her record to 3-0.

Cascino and Wong each went 2-4 and Schriber went 1-2 with one run scored and three RBI.

The Roadrunners return to action on Saturday, March 29th as they travel to TCNJ for a 1:00 PM doubleheader.
