Mahwah, NJ: The Montclair State University softball team won a pair of NJAC games today over Ramapo College at the Athletic Center. The Red Hawks (26-12, 11-5 NJAC) won a close game one, 2-1, while they took game two, 8-0 in six innings. The Roadrunners move to 25-12 overall and 9-7 in the NJAC.
Game #1: MSU 2, Ramapo 1
The game remained scoreless until the top of the fourth inning when the Red Hawks got on the board. Liz Mullen led off and reached on an error before Katie Brunner belted a two-run home run to give MSU the 2-0 lead. In the bottom of the fifth, Clay'le Correa – Vanness led off with a single through the left side of the infield. She moved to second on a sac bunt from
Alex Hastings that was misplayed putting two runners on base before they both moved up on base on a foul-out to right field.
Hannah Hensler then lifted a sac fly to right field which allowed Correa – Vanness to come home to cut the Red Hawk lead in half, 2-1. The Roadrunners left two runners on in the sixth and nine for the game as they could not scratch another run across to tie the game.
Gabby Morgan (8-4) took the loss in the circle for the Roadrunners as she struck out five, walked two and surrendered six hits and two runs (one earned). Ramapo collected three hits in the game including a double from
Angelina Ciesnicki.
Game #2: MSU 8, Ramapo 0 | Six innings
The Red Hawks once again scored in the opening frame with one run as Liz Mullen singled home Jayla Vasquez for the 1-0 lead. In the fifth, Mullen drove in three RBI with a three-run home run to extend the lead, 4-0. It was Mullen in the sixth who knocked in her fifth RBI of the game with a single, 5-0. Dylan Boles connected on a base clearing double to drive in three more runs for the 8-0 score.
Jordan Tarabokia (9-4) kept the Roadrunners bats quiet only surrendering one hit in the fifth inning. She struck out four and walked two to earn the win in the circle for MSU.
Mikyala McJilton (5-4) suffered the loss for Ramapo as she struck out two, walked one and let up three hits and one run in four innings of action. Maidson Grochel-Klein posted the lone hit for the Roadrunners with a single up the middle.
Ramapo returns to action on Saturday, April 25 when they host #17-ranked Rowan University in the final NJAC doubleheader of the regular season starting at 1pm. The Roadrunners will honor their senior class in a pre-game ceremony.
