#17 ROWAN SOFTBALL SWEEPS RAMAPO

RAMAPO EARNS THE #6 SEED IN THE NJAC TOURNAMENT

Mahwah, NJ:  The #17 Rowan University softball team defeated Ramapo College this afternoon at the Athletic Center, 6-3 in game one and 9-3 in game two. The Profs improve to 33-7 overall and 16-2 in the NJAC while the Roadrunners move to 25-14 overall and 9-9 in the league. Rowan earns the #2 seed in the upcoming NJAC Softball Tournament and earns a first-round bye. The Roadrunners earn the #6 seed and will be on the road in the quarterfinal round as they travel to #3 Kean University for a single-elimination game on Tuesday, April 28th at 3:00pm.

Game #1: Rowan 6, Ramapo 3
Abigail Pawlowski poked a single to center field to drive in Rowan's first run of the game, 1-0. Ramapo took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first. Alex Hastings drew a bases loaded walk to force home Clay'le Correa-Vanness to tie the game before Angelina Ciesnicki later scored on a wild pitch, 2-1. The Profs tied the game in the second on a sac fly foul out to right field off the bat of Zoey Rogers as Maddyn Rittler scored, 2-2. The score remained tied until the top of the seventh inning when Maggie Funston and Zara McNair each tallied an RBI single for the 4-2 lead. Mikayla Dansky then ripped a double to right field to plate two more runs for the Profs to extend the lead, 6-2. In the bottom of the seventh, Ciesnicki reached on an infield single before later scoring on a Rowan error before the Profs recorded the final out of the game for the 6-3 victory.

BethAnne Doderer (17-2) struck out one, walked three and let up six hits and two runs in six innings of work. Emily McCutcheon worked the final inning in the circle for Rowan as she struck out one and let up one hit and one run.

Gabby Morgan started in the circle for Ramapo as she struck out five, walked four and surrendered seven hits and two runs over 5.1 innings of work. Brook Knight (12-5) suffered the loss for Ramapo as she struck out one, walked two and let up four hits and four runs in the final 1.2 innings. Ciesnicki finished 3-4 with two runs scored to lead the Roadrunners at the plate.

Game #2: Rowan 9, Ramapo 3
Rowan jumped out to a three run lead in the top of the first inning before scoring two more in the second, one in the third and two in the fifth for an 8-0 lead. The Roadrunners got on the board in the bottom of the fifth with one run while they added two in the sixth. In the bottom of the fifth with one out, Ciesnicki singled through the right side of the infield before the Profs induced a fly out to left field for the second out. Hensler then laced a double to right-center field to plate Ramapo's first run of the game. Rowan tacked on one run in the sixth before Ramapo added two in the bottom of the inning. Niah Murphy laced a single up the middle before Lia Milsom and Alex Hastings each singled to load the bases with one out. Ciesnicki lifted a sac fly to center field which allowed Murphy to score before Paley Sullivan drove in Milsom with a RBI single to left field, 3-9. Neither team scored in the seventh as the Profs held the Roadrunners from scoring in the bottom of the inning for the 9-3 win.

Hensler and Ehrmann each finished 3-4 while Milsom finished 2-4 with one run scored. Mikayla McJilton (5-5) struck out eight, walked nine and surrendered 11 hits and nine runs (seven earned) in the complete game for the Roadrunners.
