Little Falls, NJ (5/11/07) – Sophomore rightfielder
Marilee Farmer (Toms River, NJ/Toms River East) cracked a two-out, solo walk-off homer in the bottom of the seventh as No. 4 seed Ramapo College won its third straight elimination game with a 2-1 victory over No. 6 College of Staten Island in Game 10 of the 2007 NCAA Division III Softball Montclair, NJ Regional at the MSU Softball Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Farmer drove in both runs as the Roadrunners (33-9) advance to the final game on Saturday against NJAC foe and second-seeded Montclair State at 2:00 pm. It will be the fourth meeting of the year between MSU and Ramapo with the Roadrunners taking three of the four, including a 4-3 victory a week ago in the New Jersey Athletic Conference Tournament.
Marianne Tepedino (Staten Island, NY/St. Joseph by the Sea) was 2-for-3 with a run scored for Staten Island, which finished the year at 28-13. The CUNYAC champions were making their third appearance in the NCAA Division III Softball Championship.
A pitcher's duel between Norton and CSI senior righthander Christina D'Arpa (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) stayed scoreless until the bottom of the fifth inning when the Roadrunners scratched out a run thanks to two Dolphins errors with two outs.
Lauren Cascino (New Windsor, NY/Cornwall Central) and
Beth Choma (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) reached on back-to-back errors. Farmer then delivered a single to centerfield to drive in the game's first run.
Down to its last three outs, Staten Island rallied as Tepedino singled to open the inning and moved to second on a sacrifice by D'Arpa. Brianne Russo (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) laced a double to bring home the tying run.
In the bottom of the seven, D'Arpa got the first two outs on fly balls to center, however the third fly ball proved to be the difference as Farmer hit her fifth homer of the year to keep the Roadrunners alive for another game.
Norton allowed just three hits as she improved to 18-5. The righty struck out seven and did not walk a batter. D'Arpa fell to 14-7 allowing seven hits with a pair of strikeouts and two walks.
