Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College field hockey team fell short, 2-3 today to the Monarchs of King's College in their 2006 season opener in Mahwah. The Roadrunners stand at 0-1 overall going into Sunday's match-up with Marywood at 11:30 AM.
King's wrapped up the first half of play, 1-0 over Ramapo ripping ten first half shots. Kings' Lindsay Sabo (Milford, PA) struck one past Ramapo's rookie goal minder Jenna Fenninello (Clark, NJ) at the 12:26 minute mark, unassisted. Ramapo ripped five shots in the first period with Kari Leach (Milford, PA) grabbing three saves.
The Monarchs jumped out to a 3-0 lead just over six minutes into the second period behind junior Debbie Wychock (Wilkes-Barre, PA) who ripped a cross from Rianda Steck (Rome, NY) at 35:51 and Megan Farrell (Clark Summit, PA) who connected with Wychock off a corner at 41:11.

Devin Flynn (Mullica Hill, NJ) closed the gap with her first goal of the year at 54:43 off an assist from sophomore
Kelly Nolan (Spring Lake Heights, NJ). The Roadrunners came within one when awarded a penalty stroke at 66:01. Junior defender
Jacquelyn Garofalo (Middletown, NJ) struck the ball past Leach to close the gap, 2-3.
King's held on in the final minutes earning their first win of the year, 3-2 to open the 2006 season 1-0 overall.
Fenninello posted eight total saves in the complete 70 minutes while Leach totaled 13 in the match-up. Nolan grabbed a goal-line for the Roadrunners in the first half of play.
