Glassboro, NJ: The #23 Rowan University field hockey team earned a 9-1 victory over Ramapo College tonight in NJAC action. The Profs, who are ranked in the NFHCA Top 25 Poll, improve to 8-3 overall and 1-0 in the NJAC while the Roadrunners move to 3-5 overall and 0-1 in the conference.
After Rowan built an early lead in the first quarter, the Roadrunner defense settled in and held the nationally-ranked Profs to one goal in the second and third quarters combined.
Olivia Wintrode helped anchor the defensive effort in the cage with 14 saves heading into the final quarter of action.
Kaylee Free put the Roadrunners on the board in the fourth quarter with less than 30 seconds remaining in the game. The goal was Free's fourth of the season. Ramapo put all five of its shots on goal as
Kayla Gray recorded two while Free,
Sophia Catanzaro and
Eliana Momm each added one. Wintrode finished the game with a career-high 16 saves in the cage for the Roadrunners.
Sydney Kowalczyk led the Profs with two goals and one assist as eight different Rowan players found the back of the cage. Kelley Crescenzo recorded four saves in 45 minutes of action for the Profs while Ella Morton played the opening quarter in the cage and did not need to make a save.
Ramapo returns home on Wednesday, Oct. 7 when the Roadrunners host New Paltz in NJAC action. The game is scheduled for 3:30pm.
