Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College field hockey team posted a 3-0 shutout victory over Gwynedd Mercy University today at the Athletic Center Turf Field. The Roadrunners improve to 3-2 overall while the Griffins move to 0-6 on the season.
Ramapo got on the board early as
Eliana Momm scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season just 3:19 into the first quarter for a 1-0 lead. The Roadrunners carried the lead into halftime before adding two goals in the second half.
Kayla Gray extended the Ramapo lead in the opening minutes of the third quarter when she collected a pass from Momm and found the back of the net at 31:02. The goal was Gray's third of the season while Momm recorded the assist.
Kaylee Free capped the scoring in the fourth quarter as she tallied her third goal of the year off an assist from Gray at 50:23 for the 3-0 score.
The Roadrunners controlled the offensive attack, outshooting the Griffins, 37-6, including a 24-3 advantage in shots on goal. Ramapo also held an 18-5 advantage in penalty corners. Gray led the Roadrunners with 11 shots while Free and Momm each recorded five.
Olivia Wintrode played all 60 minutes in the cage for Ramapo and collected three saves to earn the shutout. Gwynedd Mercy goalkeeper Kelly Weaver posted 21 saves in the game.
Ramapo returns to action on Sept. 22nd when they travel to WestConn for a non-conference game at 6pm.Â
