Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College field hockey team played host to the Lions of The College of New Jersey in a New Jersey Athletic Conference match-up at the Athletic Center in Mahwah. The Roadrunners fell short 6-2 falling to 4-7 overall, 0-3 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference heading into Saturday's game with Elmira at 2:00 PM at Don Bosco Prep High School. The Lions continue to dominate the NJAC remaining undefeated at 3-0, 11-0 overall.
It took the Lions just over two minutes into the game to put their first goal past rookie goaltender
Jenna Feminello (Clark, NJ). Colleen Dougherty (Atco, NJ) shot a pass across the cage and connected with Jessica Falcone (Cherry Hill, NJ) to take a 1-0 lead. The Roadrunners fought back and tied the game at 22:29 off an unassisted goal by junior midfielder
Devin Flynn (Mullica Hill, NJ). The goal was Flynn's 11th of the year.
At the half with the score tied at one goal, Ramapo's Feminello had recorded three first half saves while Erin Mitschke (Boonton Township, NJ) posted seven. The Lions out-shot the Roadrunners 9-8 in the first 35 minutes of play.
The Lions posted a 2-1 lead at 42:38 when Allison Greene (Atco, NJ) recorded her 12th goal of the year, unassisted. Greene contributed to TCNJ's third goal of the game connecting with sophomore forward Jennifer Lubin (Moorestown, NJ) at the 45:31 minute mark for a two goal, 3-1, edge.
Junior defender
Amanda Wichnick (Middletown, NJ) closed the gap for Ramapo capitalizing on a penalty stroke at 52:44 but TCNJ's Melissa Bultray (Lincoln Park, NJ) answered just over three minutes later with an unassisted goal of her own jumping the Lions ahead by two goals once again, 4-2. Sheri Grondski (Hamilton, NJ) added insurance for the Lions with six minutes left to play and Ashleigh Pecherski (Middletown, NJ) sealed it with a last second goal assisted by Jess Berkowitz (Cranford, NJ) for the 6-2 victory.
Feminello finished the day with 13 saves while Mitschke earned the win posted eight saves and letting up two goals in the full 70 minutes. Ramapo posted two shots to the Lions 11 in the final half of play for a game total ten and 22 respectively.
The Lions return to action on Saturday, October 14th when they travel to Salisbury University for a non-conference match-up at 1:00 PM.
