ROADRUNNERS SURPASS PIONEERS BEHIND STERN IN OT

Mahwah , NJ : The Ramapo College field hockey team defeated the Pioneers of William Paterson, 3-2 in overtime today at the Athletic Center in Mahwah improving to 3-5 overall, 1-1 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. William Paterson falls to 4-3 overall, 0-2 in the conference.

Ramapo posted a come-from-behind victory today behind junior KATIE STERN (Wayne, NJ ) who ripped a shot past senior goal minder Jessie Mull (Trenton, NJ ) just over five minutes into overtime.

The Roadrunners fell behind 2-0 in the sixth and 23rd minute of the game when rookie Tina Londino (Gloucester City, NJ ) connected with senior Scout Bargiel (Green Township, NJ ) off a penalty corner and Katie Jo Cipriani (Thorofare, NJ ) connected with Meghan Hall (Turnersville, NJ ) respectively giving the Pioneers a 2-0 halftime lead.

Ramapo fought back in the second half of play when sophomore wing DEVIN FLYNN (Mullicattill, NJ ) was awarded a penalty stroke at the 46:55 minute mark and sophomore LINDSAY HELLWIG (Mt. Olive, NJ ) connected with STERN just over one minute before the end of regulation tying the game at two goals apiece.

In overtime, junior goal tender KATELYN FERGUSON (Sussex, NJ) blocked two Pioneer shots shutting out William Paterson and STERN pushed forward ripping one pastMull grabbing the 3-2 sudden death victory.

FERGUSON posted ten total saves in the win with two goals against while Mull grabbed three saves with three goals against in the full game.

Ramapo will return to action on Wednesday, October 5th when they host SUNY New Paltz for a 4:00 PM start.
