Mahwah, NJ : The Ramapo College softball team swept a non-conference double header today, 17-0 in game one and 6-3 in game two. With the sweep the Roadrunners bring their overall record to 24-10 while the Dolphins drop to 16-14-1.
Game 1: The Roadrunners score the winning run in the bottom of the second inning as junior catcher LISA RIZZO (Dumont, NJ ) doubled home rookies LAUREN CASCINO (New Windsor, NY) and KENDALL PATTON (Hammonton, NJ ) to bring the score to 2-0. They added one run in the second as PATTON singled home rookie second basemen MEGAN HICKS (Paramus, NJ ). In the third inning they Roadrunners scored four more times when sophomore first basemen LEAH MONDADORI (Emerson, NJ ) ripped a triple to centerfield scoring three runs. In the bottom of the fourth inning Ramapo scored 10 runs on eleven hits, bringing the score to 17-0. They held the Dolphins scoreless in the top of the fifth to earn their 14th shutout of the year.
Rookie pitcher HEATHER CAMB (Totowa, NJ ) earned her sixth win of the season, giving up only three hits over five innings. She had four strikeouts and one walk.
PATTON was perfect from the plate going 4 for 4 with 3 runs scored and 2 RBI's. JONES and MONDADORI were also perfect from the plate going 3 for 3. Junior left fielder ANDREA PASTIGLIONE (Southern California, CA) went 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI's.
For the Dolphins, Nicole Pignatelli (Staten Island, NY ) took the loss, giving up three runs on seven hits. Jenn Doscher (Staten Island, NY ) was 1 for 3 in the game.
Game 2: Ramapo jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first as CASCINO doubled home PATTON and PASTIGLIONE then singled home PATTON. In the third inning the Roadrunners scored two more runs as junior BETH CHOMA (East Brunswick, NJ ) singled home CASCINO who singled to center to start the inning. Pinch runner HICKS then scored on a pass ball bringing the score to 4-0. Ramapo kept the Dolphins' bats quiet until the sixth inning when Christina D'Arpa(Staten Island, NY ) ripped a three run home run to left field cutting the lead to 4-3. The Roadrunners answered back with two runs in the bottom half of the sixth when sophomore second basemen GINNY O'BRIEN (Emerson, NJ ) walked and MONDADORI had a RBI triple to center, and later scored on a wild pitch. Ramapo held the Dolphins in the seventh to earn their 24th win of the season.
Rookie pitcher LAUREN DEBOLD (Bloomfield, NJ ) remained undefeated bringing her record to 4-0. She pitched six complete innings giving up three runs on five hits and striking out two. Sophomore pitcher MARISSA MARINO (Wayne, NJ ) picked up her second save of the year, pitching the final inning, giving up no hits and striking out two.
CASCINO was 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored and 1 RBI, CHOMA and PASTIGLIONE were both 1 for 2 with 1 RBI. Sophomore shortstop MICHELLE ROSSI (Emerson, NJ ) was 2 for 3 with a double and a triple.
For the Dolphins, D'Arpa was 2 for 3 with a home run, 1 run scored and three RBI's. Doscher was 1 for 3 with a run scored. D'Arpa pitched a complete game, picking up her first loss on the season; her record now stands at 6-1.
The Roadrunners return to action tomorrow at home, as they face Kean University for a NJAC double header starting at 1:00PM.
