Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College softball team opened its 2002 season today at the Athletic Center against The College of Staten Island. The Roadrunners defeated the Dolphins, 9-1.

Sophomore MICHELLE MICKLOS (Tuxedo, NY) led off the 3rd inning with a homerun giving Ramapo a 3-0 lead over Staten Island. MICKLOS led the way hitting 2-3 with one single, one homerun and one RBI for the day while rookie ALICIA CRUZ (East Brunswick, NJ) also went 2-3 with three runs scored. SHELLIE GUIDER (Jefferson, NJ) 2, LAURA GERMANO (Park Ridge, NJ) 2, and JACKIE MORRIS (Wanaque, NJ) 1, each scored giving Ramapo the 9-1 victory on opening day.

Due to darkness, game two of the double-header was called after 2 1/3 innings. Before the call, MICKLOS hit a two-run homerun.

The Roadrunners will travel to USMMA Kings Point tomorrow at 3:30 for a double-header match-up
