Box Score 2 Hoboken, NJ: The Stevens Institute of Technology softball team swept a pair of non-conference games from visiting Ramapo College this afternoon. The Ducks (16-12 overall) won the first game 9-1 in five innings snapping the Roadrunners (23-5 overall) 14-game win streak while Stevens won game two 7-6 in nine innings.
Game #1: Stevens 9, Ramapo 1 | Five Innings
Stevens took a 3-0 lead after two innings of play before Ramapo scored their only run in the top of the third inning. Clay'le Correa-Vanness singled, stole second and moved to third on
Kori Gargiulo's infield single.
Paley Sullivan then drove her how with an RBI double to put the team on the board. In the top of the fifth,
Alex Hastings belted a ball to the right field wall which was caught by the Ducks defense over the fence robbing the Roadrunners of another run. Stevens would go on to score three in the fifth and three in the sixth for the eight-run lead.
Gabby Morgan (8-2) took the loss in the circle for the Roadrunners as she struck out four, walked three and let up ten hits and nine runs.
Lia Milsom led the team at the plate finishing 2-3.
Game #2: Stevens 7, Ramapo 6 | Nine Innings
Stevens scored two runs in the second inning to take an early lead before Ramapo scored two in the top of the third to tie the game. Milsom reached on a fielder's choice and later scored on an RBI single from
Angelina Ciesnicki. Sullivan drove in Correa-Vanness with an RBI single to right field to knot the score at two. In the fifth, Milsom reached once again on a fielder's choice before she stole second base. Correa-Vanness beat out an infield single to put runners on the corners before Correa-Vanness stole second and Ciesnicki drew a walk to load the bases. Gargiulo worked a walk to force home Milsom to take a 3-2 lead before Sullivan drove in Correa-Vanness with a sac fly to right field, 4-2. In the bottom of the sixth Jessica Hsu belted a solo home run to left field to cut the lead to 4-3. The Ducks were down to their final out in the bottom of the seventh when an unearned run scored on a Ramapo fielding error to tie the game at four. In the eighth, Correa-Vanness started on second base before moving to third on a sac bunt from Ciesnicki before coming home on an RBI single from Gargiulo, 5-4.
Madison Groschel-Klein drove a pinch-hit RBI single into right field to plate the team's sixth run, 6-4. In the bottom of the eighth, Adrianna Albano started on second base before Riley Lawrence drew a walk. Both runners moved up on a wild pitch before Isabela Lipsky was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to force home Albano to come within one of tying the game. Stevens tied the game on a fielding error in the infield before Ramapo induced an infield pop out to end the inning. The Ducks held Ramapo from scoring in the top of the ninth before they got the game-winning hit from Hsu in the bottom of the inning. Kacey Dipasquale started on second base before Hsu laced a double down the right field line as Dipasquale came around to score, 7-6.
Brook Knight (12-2) suffered the tough loss in relief as she struck out eight, walked five and surrendered five hits and five runs with just one being earned. Gargiulo finished the game 3-4 with two RBI and one run scored.
The Roadrunners return to action at the Athletic Center on Saturday, April 11th when they host NJAC rival the College of New Jersey at 1:00 PM.Â
