SOFTBALL EXTENDS WIN STREAK TO 12 WITH ROAD SWEEP OVER RUTGERS-CAMDEN

COACH QUIMPO EARNS 300TH CAREER COACHING VICTORY AT RAMAPO

Camden, NJ:  The Ramapo College softball team extends their win streak to 12 games with a NJAC road sweep over host Rutgers-Camden University. The Roadrunners won game one 11-4 while they took game two 6-1. Ramapo moves to 22-3 overall and 6-0 in the NJAC while the Scarlet Raptors move to 6-10 overall and 1-5 in the league. In the sweep, head coach Bridgette Quimpo tallied her 300th career coaching victory at Ramapo College. 

Game #1: Ramapo 11, Rutgers-Camden 4
In the first inning, Hannah Hensler drove in Kori Gargiulo with an RBI double before Aimee Notaro singled home Hensler for an early 2-0 lead. Gianna Bauer tied the game for the Scarlet Raptors with a two-RBI double of her own as Ava Iepson and Kali Baker each scored, 2-2. Ramapo scored eight runs in the top of the second inning for a 10-2 lead. The inning was highlighted by back-to-back two-RBI doubles from Gargiulo and Alex Hastings while Notaro drove two more RBI with a single. In the bottom of the second, Victoria Conelly hit a solo home run while Iepson drove in Zoie Mantzell with an RBI double to add two more runs for Rutgers-Camden. In the top of the fifth, Paley Sullivan drove in Clay'le Correa-Vanness with an RBI single to extend the lead, 11-4.

Brooke Knight (10-1) earned the win in relief as she struck out three, walked one and surrendered six hits in 5.2 innings of work. Gabby Morgan started the game and let up four hits and four runs with one walk in 1.1 innings. At the plate, Correa-Vanness finished 3-5 while Notaro led the way with three RBI finishing 2-4 with one run scored.

Game #2: Ramapo 6, Rutgers-Camden 1
Rutgers-Camden scored one run in the top of the third to take a 1-0 lead before Ramapo would tie the game in the fifth. Emily Ehrmann led off the inning with a double before Lia Milsom singled to put runners on first and third with just one out. Milsom then stole second while Ehrmann raced home on the play to tie the game at one. In the sixth, Ehrmann broke the tie with a two-RBI single driving in pinch-runner Emily Pietrzykowski and Alex Hastings. Paley Sullivan singled before being lifted for Pietrzykowski. Hastings singled to put runners on first and third before a ground out moved Hastings to second base with two outs. Ehrmann then came up big and drove in the go-ahead runs for the 3-1 lead. In the top of the seventh, Sullivan would connect on her team leading sixth home run of the season. Sullivan belted a three-run home run to plate Gargiulo and Hensler who each singled earlier in the inning, 6-1. The Scarlet Raptors put two runners on in the bottom of the seventh with two outs before Knight induced a ground out to Notaro at second base to end the threat.

Sullivan led the team at the plate finishing 3-4 with three RBI and one run scored while Hastings and Ehrmann finished 2-4 with one run scored. Ehrmann also drove in two key RBI. Gabby Morgan started in the circle in game two as she struck out one, walked three and let up eight hits and one run in four innings of work. Knight (11-1) earned the win with three strikeouts, no walks and no runs scored as she let up just two hits in the final three innings of the game.

Ramapo returns to action on Tuesday, April 7th when they travel to Rutgers-Newark University for a pair of NJAC games. First pitch of game one is set for 3:30 PM.
