SOFTBALL IS NCAA BOUND

Mahwah, NJ:  The Ramapo College softball team has earned an at large bid to the 2017 NCAA Softball Championship Tournament after winning the 2017 NJAC Regular Season Championship and moving to #13 in the nation in the NFCA Division III Top 25 Poll. 
 
Ramapo is one of 62 teams that will compete in the Division III Softball Championship where regional rounds begin Thursday/Friday.
 
"I'm so proud of the girls this season. They have worked so hard," said Coach Bridgette Quimpo. "We suffered a heartbreaking loss in the NJACs this past weekend, but we are moving on and ready to fight for the national title!"
 
All rounds of the tournament are double elimination format.  During regionals, four teams will compete at 14 regional sites and three teams will compete at two regional sites with the winners advancing to a super regional May 19th and 20th.   The finals will be held May 25th-30th at USA Softball Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
 
Forty-two teams received an automatic bid, Pool A, after winning their conference championships, one team was selected from Pool B, independent schools and those in conference's that do not meet the automatic bid qualifications, and the remaining 19 teams were selected on an at-large basis (Pool C).  The Roadrunners (29-9), an at-large selection, will take on Susquehanna (29-14), the winner of the Landmark Conference.

IN THE REGION:
Ithaca will host the region and gets an at-large bid to the tournament after falling to St. John Fisher in their conference championship.  The Bombers are making their 28th appearance at the tournament. 
 
The Bombers take on Penn St.-Berks in the opening round of competition. The Nittany Lions come out of the NEAC and are 28-7 on the year.  They earned a Pool A bid to the tournament after earning their conference's automatic bid with an 8-0 win over Keuka College. 
 
The Roadrunners face off with Susquehanna, the winner of the Landmark Conference.  Ramapo is making their seventh appearance at the NCAA Championships, the second under Quimpo, the first coming in 2015 after her team won the NJAC Championship.
