Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College softball team opens NCAA Super Regional action on Thursday, May 18th at Amherst College in Amherst, MA. The Roadrunners are one of 16 teams left competing in the tournament.

The Roadrunners, who are ranked #18 in the latest NFCA Top 25 Poll, punched their ticket to the Super Regionals with a come from behind 3-2 victory over #18 Ithaca College on Sunday afternoon. Ramapo will now go up against Amherst College in a three-game series beginning Thursday, May 18th. The first game is slated to begin at 4pm while game two will be played Friday, May 19th at 1pm and the if necessary game will take place at 3:30pm.

The Super Regional format is a best of three series with the winner advancing to the 2017 NCAA Championship Tournament, which is scheduled for May 25-30 at the USA Softball Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City, OK. This is the first time Ramapo advanced to the Super Regional round since the NCAA Tournament moved to this format four years ago. The Roadrunners are making their second appearance in the NCAA Tournament in the last three seasons and the seventh overall (2003, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2015, 2017). The program has a 14-12 overall record in the tournament and the Roadrunners advanced to the NCAA Championship round in 2006 when they won the Salisbury Regional.

Regional Action:
The Roadrunners (32-9) won three straight games at the Ithaca Regional over the weekend surrendering only three runs. They defeated Susquehanna University 4-1 to open the tournament before they defeated host Ithaca College 3-0 on day two to advance to the Championship game. After being down 2-0 to Ithaca heading into the sixth inning the Roadrunners scored two runs to tie the game and held the Bombers in the top of the seventh setting up their come from behind 3-2 victory in the bottom of the seventh.

Amherst College (31-10) won their first-ever Regional Championship when they defeated UMass-Boston 6-2 on Sunday afternoon at the Springfield Regional. The Mammoths opened up regional play with an 11-2 five inning win over UMass-Boston before they shutout Salve Regina 2-0 to move onto the Championship game. The Mammoths then defeated UMass-Boston once on Sunday afternoon for a spot in the Super Regional Round.
