Box Score 2 Clermont, FL: The Ramapo College softball team earned two wins today at the NTC Spring Games. The Roadrunners defeated the University of Dubuque, 3-2, and Manchester University, 5-2.
Ramapo came back with two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to take the game, 3-2. Senior
Harley Masiello was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning before sophomore
Melissa Moreno put down a sac bunt to move her to second. Rookie
Nicole Hernandez was hit by a pitch before rookie
Taylor May ripped a single up the middle into center field, scoring Masiello from second base to tie the game. With the game winning run standing on third base, Dubuque was forced to make a pitching change. On the second pitch she saw, junior
Kim LaPenta laced a single to left field, scoring Hernandez for the walk-off victory.
Both teams scored in the third inning to get on the board. Dubuque (7-4) scored two runs on three hits in the top of the inning to take a 2-0 lead before Ramapo scored one run, cutting the lead in half. Senior
Jaclyn Lima reached on a bunt single before advancing to second on a fielder's choice from LaPenta. The pulled a double steal before Lima crossed home plate on a wild pitch.
Masiello started on the mound for the Roadrunners, she worked the first three innings, striking out one in the no-decision. Senior
Nicole Schneider (2-1) earned the win on the mound, she worked the final four innings without giving up a run and surrendered only one hit with three strikeouts and no walks.
LaPenta was the lone Roadrunner with a multiple hit game, going 2-4 with one RBI. Lima, sophomore Danielle Saporita, Hernandez and May all recorded one hit in the game.
In game two, Ramapo once again saw themselves down, 2-0, after four innings of play before bouncing back with five runs in the top of the fifth inning.
Manchester (3-7) scored single runs in the bottom half of the first and fourth innings before Ramapo broke through in the fifth inning for a, 5-2, lead.
With one out in the top of the fifth, Ramapo's offense drew three straight bases loaded walks to take a 3-2 lead. LaPenta and sophomores
Mikayla Melendez and
Melanie Walling all drew walks before Saporito ripped an RBI single to left field, 4-2. The Roadrunners scored another insurance run as Masiello knocked home Melendez with a sacrifice fly to center field, 5-2.
Masiello and the Ramapo defense held Manchester in their final two at-bats, to come away with the victory. Masiello (2-5) earned the win on the mound, she scattered eight hits and struck out a season high eight batters with only one walk.
May finished game two going 3-3 with one run scored while Lima was 2-4 with one run scored.
The Roadrunners return to action on on Wednesday, March 26th when they host Stevens Institute of Technology in their home opener beginning at 3pm.
