SOFTBALL SPLITS ON DAY ONE OF NTC SPRING GAMES

Roadrunners fall to #1 Tufts University before earning at 14-6 win in game two

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Clermont, FL:  The Ramapo College softball team split a pair of games today at the NTC Spring Games. The Roadrunners fell to defending national champion #1 Tufts University, 8-0 in five innings before bouncing back to defeat the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point, 14-6 in five innings.

In game one, Allyson Fournier (1-0) went the distance for the Jumbos (1-0), firing a one-hit shutout with 12 strikeouts. Tufts got on the board with three runs in the first three innings before they exploded for five runs in the fifth inning for an 8-0 win.

In the first inning for Tufts, Sara Hedtler doubled to left center field before coming home on Gracie Marshall's single to left field. The Jumbos got back-to-back home runs in the second and third innings from Bri Keenan and Jo Clair respectively, to put them in the lead, 3-0. Tufts scored five unearned runs in the fifth inning to take an, 8-0, lead.

The Roadrunners (0-1) lone hit came in the first inning as Mikayla Melendez ripped a single past the third basemen. Harley Masiello (0-1) went the distance for Ramapo, she struck out one and gave up eight runs (three earned) in the loss.

In game two, Nicole Schneider (1-0) went the distance on the mound for Ramapo. She struck out six and scattered seven hits over five innings of work while allowing six runs scored (four earned).

Ramapo got on the board in the first inning as Jaclyn Lima led off the game with a double to center field and she later came home on Erin Witherspoon's fielder's choice. Melendez scored from third base when Kim La Penta stole second base to put the Roadrunners up 2-0. Ramapo tacked on six runs in the second and fifth innings to extend their lead to 14-2.

UWSP tacked on four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, but the Schneider was able to get out of a jam and hold the lead to eight runs with a strikeout to end the game.

Lima went 3-3 with three runs scored while Melendez was 2-3 with two runs scored and four RBI. Witherspoon went 2-4 with two runs scored and four RBI and Masiello was 2-4 with one run scored and two RBI.

The Roadrunners return to action tomorrow afternoon when they take on Western Connecticut State University at 3pm and McDaniel College at 5pm.
