RAMAPO SPLITS WITH NJAC RIVAL KEAN IN NJAC SOFTBALL ACTION

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Union, NJ:  The Ramapo College softball team split their doubleheader on the road today against Kean University. The Roadrunners won the first game, 1-0 while the Cougars came back in game two with a 5-3 win. Ramapo now stands at 17-5 overall, 4-4 in the conference while Kean is now 16-10, 6-2 in the NJAC.

In game one, Danielle Rothenberger belted her fifth home run of the season over the left field wall to put Ramapo up, 1-0 in the top of the fourth inning. That was all the run support Lauren Shaw would need as she scattered five singles and struck out four in the shut out win. Shaw improves to 10-2 on the season.

Rothenberger collected two of the Roadrunner's three hits in game one while Amanda Kent was 1-2 with a double.

Courtney Yard (12-5) went the distance for Kean as she struck out three in the loss.

In game two, Jaclyn Lima came home to score on Rothenberger's single up the middle for a 1-0 Ramapo lead in the top of the third. Kean came back in the bottom half of the inning with two home runs to take a 2-1 lead.

Lisa Orlando led off the top of the sixth inning with a solo home run to tie the game at two before Kean came back and scored three runs with two outs to take a 5-2 lead going into the seventh inning. Ramapo would get one run back when Tiffany Fischer led off with a double and advanced to third on a wild pitch before she came home on Talyor Boffalo's infield ground out, 5-3. That is as close as the Roadrunners would get as Kean would get out of the jam, recording the final two outs with a runner on third to end the game.

Ramapo left nine runners on base in the second game while they belted out 11 hits. Fischer, Orlando and Rothenberger each collected two hits a piece while Kim LaPenta led the team with three hits on three at-bats.

Starting pitcher Nicole Schneider struck out one over the first 4.1 innings of work, giving up two hits and two earned runs. Shaw (10-3) worked the final 1.2 innings for the Roadrunners as she surrendered two hits, three runs and two walks.

The Roadrunners return to action on Thursday with a non-conference double header against Hunter College at 3:00 PM.
