SOFTBALL SPLITS IN NJAC SEASON OPENER, 1-0 & 3-5

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Mahwah, NJ:  The Ramapo College softball team spilt today in a NJAC double header against NJAC rival Rutgers-Camden University. Ramapo won game one, 1-0 and fell in game two, 3-5.  The Roadrunners are now 14-2, 1-1 in the NJAC while the Scarlet Raptors are 8-7, 1-1 in the conference.

Ramapo got their lone run in the fifth inning when Tiffany Fischer ripped an RBI single to left field and pinch runner Veronica Hill crossed home plate.  Hill pitch ran for Krystal Kmiechick who walked to lead off the inning, she then advanced to second on a pass ball.  Jaclyn Lima grounded out to the pitcher advancing Hill to third.  The Scarlet Raptors never answered back as the Roadrunners earned the shutout.

Lauren Shaw (8-1) earned the win allowing four hits, two walks, and striking out four.  Fischer and Lima each had two hits of their own in the game.  For Rutgers-Camden Lauren Hatzelhoffer, Erika Drayton, Jackie Leafey, and Vicki D'Anduono each had a hit during their three at bats.

In game two, the Scarlet Raptors jumped ahead with an early 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning.  Kaitlyn Gaskill came up to bat with one out as she ripped her second homerun of the season to get Rutgers-Camden on the board 1-0.  Drayton then hit a single up the middle. Following an out, D'Anduono came to bat, and hit a RBI double to left field bringing Drayton home, 2-0. 

The Roadrunners answered back in the bottom of the second inning when Lisa Orlando hit a homerun over the center field fence to come within one, 2-1.  Ramapo added two more runs in the third inning when Fischer singled to second base driving in Kristen Wilson who led off the inning with an infield single. Danielle Rothenberger recorded a fielder's choice allowing Krystal Kmiechick to come home, for the 3-2 lead. 

The Scarlet Raptors came back in the sixth inning to pick up three runs.  Tabitha Dick lead off the inning with a double to left center before Courtney Ray reached first on a throwing error by third base.  Cassella then homered driving in Dick and Ray, 5-3 for the lead.

Scarlet Raptors pitcher Ashleigh Johnson had three strike outs and allowed seven hits.  Gaskill and Drayton each had two hits during their three at bats.  The Roadrunners Fischer and Kmiechick each had two hits each.

The Roadrunners return to action at home on Tuesday, April 3 at 3:00 PM against NJAC rival William Paterson.
