RAMAPO SPLITS AT NTC SPRING GAMES

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Claremont, FL: The Ramapo College softball team split their double header at the NTC Spring games today. The Roadrunners defeated Kalamazoo, 10-2 while they fell in game two, to #25 University of St. Thomas (MN), 11-5.

In game one, Kalamazoo scored one run in the top of the first inning on an infield groundout before Ramapo came back in the bottom half of the inning with two runs to take a 2-1 lead. Janet Brown knocked home Tiffany Fischer with a RBI single, Fischer walked earlier in the inning. Kelsey Higgings then ripped a RBI single into left field as Danielle Rothenberger scored.

Kalamazoo added one run in the fourth while Ramapo added six runs to their total in the bottom half of the inning as they belted out seven hits. Rothenberger drove home two runs with a single up the middle with the bases loaded before Brown ripped a double to left field plating Fischer. Higgins would plate Rothenberger on an infield ground out before Kim LaPenta recorded an infield single as Brown touched home plate. Kmiechick worked a bases loaded walk, allowing LaPenta to cross home plate and go up 8-2.

The Roadrunners scored one run in the fifth while they scored their tenth run in the sixth inning for the eight run lead on a bases loaded single up the middle by Taylor Boffalo, 10-2. Fischer ended the game 2-2 with three runs scored while Rothenberger was 3-4 with two runs scored and three RBI. Brown, Higgins, Cara Maloney and Eskin each collected two hits in the game.

Nicole Schneider struck out one and walked none over six innings of work as she picked up her second win on the season.

In game two, the Tommies jumped out to a 2-0 lead before Ramapo got one run back in the top of the third inning. Kmiechick led off with a single before being advanced to second on a infield single and moved to third on a fielder's choice. She would come home on Rothenberger's single, 2-1. The Roadrunners tied the game in the fifth inning as Lisa Orlando singled to lead off the inning and later scored on a pass ball, 2-2. It was Orlando who put Ramapo in the lead, 4-2 with a two out, full count two-run home run to left field that plated Caitlin Smith who was hit by a pitch earlier in the inning. The lead was short lived as St. Thomas scored eight runs on four hits and two Ramapo errors in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 10-4 lead  before they tacked on one more run in the sixth, 11-4.

Rothenberger ripped her second home run of the year in the seventh inning over the left field fence, 11-5, but that is as close as the Roadrunners would get. Ramapo tallied ten hits in the game to St. Thomas' 11 hits. Lauren Shaw suffered her first loss of the season with 5.0 innings of work. She struck out two and walked two while only giving up two earned runs (10 unearned).

Orlando and Lima each collected two hits for Ramapo while Rothenberger tallied three hits, one run scored and two RBI.

Ramapo returns to action at the NTC Spring Games when they take on Bethel University at 11:00 AM and University of Wisconsin-Platteville at 1:00 PM.
