BARRETTA'S HAT TRICK LEADS RAMAPO OVER WARRIORS, 4-1

Mansfield, CT: The Ramapo College field hockey team defeated Eastern Connecticut State, 4-1 in the season opener for both teams.

Coming off a 9-10 season, Ramapo dominated over the first 35 minutes, scoring three times in a span of ten minutes. In the first meeting between the programs, Ramapo unloaded 25 shots in the first half before the Warriors answered with all eight of their shots and all eight of their penalty corners over the final 35 minutes.

Returning scoring leader Amanda Barretta, a senior forward, scored three of Ramapo's goals, opening the scoring in the 16th minute and making it 4-0 in the opening minutes of the second half. Barretta put nine of her ten shots on cage, while senior midfielder Jayne Manigrasso collected 11 of her team's 41 shots, putting all of them on goal and knocking one in to make it 2-0 with the 20th minute.

Barretta got the Roadrunners on the board with an unassisted goal 15:33 into the first half before Manigrasso added her unassited goal at 19:19. Barretta took a pass from Aimee Herbert at 25:32 to make it 3-0 before she struck for a third time off a pass from Victoria Ahlers, 4-0.

The Warriors got one back by Chelsie Rizzo, 4-1, to break up the shutout at 50:26 into the game. Rebecca Elliott made four saves in the complete game win.

Ramapo will return to action this Saturday when they travel to the Stevenson Tournament. They take on Delaware Valley College at 2:00 PM.
