Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College softball team swept NJAC rival Montclair State University today, 1-0 and 6-1 in two key conference games. The Roadrunners improve to 26-6 overall, 12-4 in the NJAC while the Red Hawks fall to 25-7 overall, 13-3 in the conference.

Caitlin Smith hit a fifth inning home run while junior
Lauren Shaw fired a complete game shutout as Ramapo took game one 1-0. Smith's drilled a 1-2 pitch over the left field wall for her first home run of her career to put the Roadrunners on the board.
Shaw, who raised her record to 5-0, scattered five hits while striking out three and walking none. The Roadrunners turned a game ending double play, 4-6-3 in the seventh inning to preserve the win.
Tiffany Fischer was the lone player in the game to collect multiple hits as she was 2-3.
Alex Hill (15-3) dropped only her third game of the season as she struck out six and walked one in the complete game for the Red Hawks.
In game two, Ramapo got on the board early with a unearned run in the top of the first inning before MSU tied the game with a sac fly off the bat of Kellie O'Brien allowing Leslie Gonzalez to score from third. She led off the game with a slap single through the left side.
The Roadrunners took the lead in the top of the fourth inning with a two out single to right field by
Kelsey Higgins as
Ashley Schirripa came around to score from second base, 2-1. She laced a single into left field to get on base before moving to second on
Lisa Orlando's single to center field. Ramapo broke the game open in the top of the sixth inning with four runs on four hits and one MSU error to take at 6-1 lead.
Danielle Rothenberger walked to lead off the inning on four pitches before she was lifted for pinch runner
Erin Brady.
Janet Brown reached on a throwing error allowing Brady to move to third base and Brown to end up at second. Brown was lifted was pinch runner
Jaclyn Giangrande before Schirripa ripped a single in the hole allowing Brady to score. One out later and runner's standing on second and third, Higgins ripped a two RBI double to center field, plating Schirripa and Giangrande while Higgins advanced to third on the throw home.
Krystal Kmiechick then doubled to left center plating Higgins for the final run of the inning.
Deanna Giordano (10-4) only allowed two hits the final two innings to earn her tenth win of the season. She struck out seven and scattered six hits. Higgins finished the game 2-3 with one run scored and three RBI while Schirripa was 2-4 with two runs scored and one RBI. Rothenberger finished the game 2-3 with one run scored.
The Roadrunners return to action when they host #18 Moravian College in a non-conference double header on Thursday at 3:30pm.
