FARMINGDALE STATE ADVANCED TO ECAC METRO CHAMPIONSHIP GAME WITH 3-2 WIN OVER RAMAPO

#2 Stockton and #1 Ramapo will square off at 11:00 AM on Sunday in the semi-finals

Mahwah, NJ: The #3 Farmingdale State Rams won a pair of games to advance to the 2010 ECAC Metro Softball Championship game tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 PM.

#1 Ramapo defeated Rutgers-Camden, 5-1 before falling to the Rams in game four of the day, 3-2. #2 Stockton fell to #3 Farmingdale State, 4-3 but bounced back with a win over #5 Rutgers-Camden, 7-2, eliminating the Scarlet Raptors from the Championships.

Game One - #1 Ramapo vs. #5 Rutgers-Camden

The Roadrunners got on the board in the bottom of the second inning when rookie Lisa Orlando (Bloomfield, NJ) ripped a single up the middle with one out to plate rookie Ashley Schirripa (Staten Island, NY) and sophomore Tiffany Fischer (Woodcliff Lake, NJ) who walked and doubled earlier in the inning to take a 2-0 lead.

Ramapo got out of a two-out bases loaded jam in top of the third inning. A walk and infield single loaded the bases for the Scarlet Raptors before junior pitcher Lyndsay Buehler (River Vale, NJ) recorded a foul out to third base to end the threat.

With two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning Schrrippa ripped her fourth home run over the left field wall, junior Rachel Wong (Livingston, NJ) and sophomore Danielle Rothenberger (Livingston, NJ) scored to take a 5-0 lead.

The Scarlet Raptors put a run on the board in the seventh inning when Vicki D'Anduono singled past the third baseman and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt before moving to third on a ground out. Junior Brooke Keenan singled up the middle to pick up the RBI. Ramapo got the final out of the inning on a foul out to third base to earn their 29th victory of the season.

Buehler (15-4) scattered five hits in the complete game, striking out seven and walking two. Orlando was 3-3 with two RBI while rookie Amanda Kent (Sparta, NJ) was 2-3.

Game Two - #3 Farmingdale State vs. #2 Richard Stockton

Farmingdale State jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Rookie Maressa Mistretta walked to lead off the inning and sophomore Rebecca Richman singled before being moved to second and third on a sacrifice bunt. Junior Nicole Farber recorded a RBI when her line drive to center field was caught and Mistretta scored on the play. Stockton would commit an error on they play trying to get Richman going to third base, allowing her to score on the throw.

Stockton would load the bases but only score one run, to cut the lead in half, as senior Kelly Dodd ripped a single to left field scoring sophomore Joey Afflitto who reached on an error earlier in the inning.

The Rams would get one back in the top of the fourth inning when Farber reached base on an error and scored on rookie Kristen Flint's double to right center field, 3-1. The Ospreys tied the game in the bottom of the sixth inning, 3-3 before the Rams would take the lead in the top of the seventh, 4-3. Farber ripped a single up the middle to plate sophomore Kaitlin Keenan who doubled to right center field with two outs in the inning, 4-3.

The Rams would hold the lead in the bottom of the seventh inning sending the Osprey's down 1-2-3 for their 32nd win of the season. Junior Heather Buckshaw improved to 10-4 as she scattered six hits and struck out five.

Game Three - #2 Richard Stockton vs. #5 Rutgers-Camden

The Ospreys jumped out to a 3-0 lead as they pounded out five hits, three of them being doubles in the bottom of the first inning. Afflitto led off the inning with a double to center field before Danielle Accardi ripped a double scoring Afflitto. Dodd then smacked a double to center field plating Accardi before she scored on Laura Dubell's single to left field, 3-0.

The Scarlet Raptors got one back in the top of the second inning when Kaitlin Gaskill walked before moving to third on a walk and fielder's choice. She would score with two outs in the inning when the Osprey's tried to get Nikki DiVece stealing second base; the throw sailed into center field allowing Gaskill to score, 3-1. Stockton tacked on three runs in the bottom half of the second inning to take a 6-1 lead. The Osprey's scored one more run in the third inning, Afflitto doubled to right centerfield and scored on a RBI single to center field by Brooke Shetter, 7-1.

The Scarlet Raptors scored one run in the fourth inning when Amanda D'Anduono grounded out to third base as V. D'Anduono scored from third on the play; she walked earlier in the inning, 7-2.

Kaitlyn Corica raised her record to 8-6 on the year as she struck out five in the complete game win.

Game Four - #1 Ramapo vs. #3 Farmingdale State

Farmingdale took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning. Mistretta walked before advancing to second on a single down the left field line, she later scored on an infield error.

The Roadrunners took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth as rookie Janet Brown (Point Pleasant, NJ) ripped a two-run homerun over the right center field wall plating Orlando, who doubled to center field earlier in the inning.

The Rams scored two unearned runs in the fifth inning, to take a 3-2 lead, when Walker ripped a double to center field plating Richman and Farber, each reached on errors during the inning.

Ramapo would not go down quietly as they put runner's on first and second with one out before Rothenberger just missed her fifth home run of the season as the ball banged off the middle of the fence for a double, pinch hitter junior Jaclyn Giangrande (Belleville, NJ) who reached on a drop third strike to lead off the inning was thrown out at the plate by the Rams for the second out of the game. Sophomore Hope Zino would get the next batter to foul out to third base to end the Ramapo threat and lead the Rams into the ECAC Metro Championship game.

Ramapo now meets #2 Stockton tomorrow at 11:00 AM; the winner will advance and play the Rams at 1:00 PM in the Championship game.

Junior Deanna Giordano (12-9) was the hard luck pitcher as she scattered seven hits while striking out seven in the complete game loss.
