Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College softball team won a non-conference double header against Albright College today at the Athletic Center. The Roadrunners improve to 22-12 while the Lions fall to 6-23.
Ramapo would get all the runs they would need in the bottom of the first inning. Senior
Katie Donnelly (North Haledon, NJ) led off the game with a bunt single and stole second before junior
Rachel Wong (Livingston, NJ) ripped a double to center field to plate Donnelly. Sophomore
Danielle Rothenberger (Livingston, NJ) singled to third base and Wong was able to score on the play to take at 2-0 lead.
The Roadrunners defense would hold the Lion's despite committing three errors in the game for the shutout win. Junior
Deanna Giordano (Clifton, NJ) picked up her ninth win of the season (9-6) in the complete game shutout, she struck out five while scattering four hits in the game.
In game two, rookie
Kelsey Higgins (Wall, NJ) doubled down the left field line plating sophomore
Tiffany Fischer (Woodcliff Lake, NJ) who singled and moved up to second on a wild pitch in the second inning.
The Lions would tie the game in the fourth inning, 1-1. With runner's on first and third and one out, rookie Kiersten Gilfoy stole second and rookie Brandy Lagomarsino took off from third base on the throw and was safe at home plate for Albright.
Junior pitcher
Lyndsay Buehler (River Vale, NJ) got out of a jam in the top of the seventh inning as the Lions recorded back to back singles with one out before a sacrifice bunt would move them up to second and third. Buehler then got senior Gloria Alfonsi to look at strike three to end the inning. Ramapo would need the heroics of rookie
Ashley Schirripa (Staten Island, NY) in the bottom of the seventh inning to win the game. Donnelly hit a bunt single to lead off the inning before moving to second on a ground out by Wong. Lion pitcher Dana Parolari recorded the second out on a strike out before Schirripa ripped a deep single to center field, plating Donnelly with the winning run, 2-1.
Buehler (11-3) went the distance as she struck out five and walked none while giving up only five hits. Schirripa was a combined 4-7 with two doubles and one RBI while Fischer was 3-5 in the double header.
Ramapo returns to action when they travel to NJAC rival #7 The College of New Jersey on Saturday, April 24th at 1:00 PM.
