Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College women's lacrosse team suffered their first loss of the 2010 season today to the Mavericks of Division II Mercy College. Marissa Hurley gave the Mavericks the victory in the final minute of the game to lead her team to their 3rd win of the season improving to 3-1 overall. Ramapo falls to 2-1.
The two teams battled it out for the entire 60 minutes of play flip-flopping the lead and tying the game on five different occasions. Hurley opened the game's scoring putting Mercy on the board just under two and a half minutes in, on an unassisted goal, her 11th of the year. The Roadrunners quickly fired back tying the game at 6:43 when sophomore Amanda Baretta (Roseland, NJ) hit the back of the net for her fourth goal of the year, also unassisted. Jamie McPartland and Briana Horn hit back-to-back shots putting the Mavericks up 3-1 at 8:16 and 13:38 respectively, before the Roadrunners closed the gap with another Baretta goal, 3-2 at 15:22. Christina Cigolini (Ridgewood, NJ),
Angela Belotta (Colonia, NJ), and
Colleen Steel (Wyckoff, NJ), taking a 5-3 lead over the Mavericks with just over ten minutes to play in the half. The two teams flip-flopped goals for the next six minutes (7-5), before Horn, Hurley, and McPartland put away three straight to wrap up the first half, 8-7 over the Roadrunners.
The second half of play went much of the same with the two teams trading goals. Ramapo made their final push with 4:27 to play when a goal from Cigolini tied the game at 14-14, but Hurley made a dash to the goal ripping a shot past
Megan Tierney (Wayne, NJ) to take the 15-14 win over Ramapo.
Mercy out shot Ramapo by a slim 17-15 in the first half before taking 22 shots in the second half over Ramapo's 14. Tierney finished the day with 16 saves and Lauren Mateja improved to 3-1 overall with 11 saves in the game.
Baretta finished with a team high five goals and Cigolini and Steel added three for Ramapo while Mercy's top scorer was Hurley with six. McPartland added three to the win.

Adrianna Tepedino (Freehold, NJ), Cigolini, and
Jessica Long (Wayne, NJ) all earned assists for the Roadrunners while Julie Darnluc recorded two and Kerry Goodnight, Stephanie DiLegge, Horn, and Kelsey Sullivan each earned one a piece in the win.
The Roadrunners return to action on Saturday March 20th when they face off with Bard College at 1:00pm, while Mercy travels to Chestnut Hill College on Friday at 4:00pm.
