Mahwah, NJ: The Kean University women's lacrosse team defeated Ramapo College tonight in NJAC action, 18-7. The Cougars move to 6-8 overall and 1-3 in the NJAC while the Roadrunners now stand at 5-10 overall and 0-4 in the league.
The Roadrunners took a 4-3 lead into the second quarter of action.
Lexi Callari scored the team's first goal with 11:35 on the clock while Callari dished a pass to
Erin Smeilus with 5:43 remaining to tie the game at two.
Darrien Pennachio scored an unassisted goal with 3:57 on the clock to take a 3-2 lead. Kean put one into the back of the net before Smeilus added her second goal of the game off a pass from
Meri Cassidy for the one goal lead. Kean scored four straight goals in the second before Pennachio tallied her second of the game as the Cougars led 7-5 at the half. Kean poured in seven goals in the third quarter and four in the fourth while the Roadrunners collected two in the third and were shutout in the fourth. In the third,
Kassidy Baez became the program's all-time career assists leader with her 54th career assist. Baez assisted on Ramapo's two goals both off the stick of
Bethany Glaser.
Pennachio, Glaser and Smeilus each posted two goals in the game for the Roadrunners while Callari added one.
Leah Whitney and Glaser led the way with four ground balls each while Glaser tallied four caused turnovers and Whitney added three. Glaser also led the team with six draw controls in the game.
Daniella Indomenico posted 10 saves in goal for the Roadrunners.
For Kean, Savannah Olsson posted five goals and four caused turnovers while Cayla Wurz and Emilie Schultz posted four goals each. Schultz also led the Cougars with four assists.
Ramapo returns to action on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Stockton University for the final NJAC regular season game of the season. The game is set for 1:00 PM.
