Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College softball team swept NJAC rival Rutgers-Camden University today at the Athletic Center. Ramapo improves to 18-2 overall and 4-0 in the conference while Rutgers-Camden falls to 3-16 overall and 1-5 in the conference.
Ramapo scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning as sophomore
Katie Donnelly (North Haledon, NJ) walked and stole second before rookie
Rachel Wong (Livingston, NJ) and senior
Lauren Cascino (New Windsor, NY) each walked to load the bases. Junior
Marilee Farmer (Toms River, NJ) walked to bring the first fun home before Wong scored on a pass ball. Rookie
Brittney McKeon (Toms River, NJ) ripped a grand-slam home run over the right field fence to take a 5-0 lead. Cascino doubled home Donnelly who walked to lead off in the second inning before Farmer ripped a two-run home run to left field for a 8-0 lead.
The Roadrunners would tack on four more runs in the fourth inning when sophomore
Jen Vitorino (Old Bridge, NJ) singled home rookie
Stephanie Malgeri (Montville, NJ) who was hit by a pitch to get on base. Rookie
Sonni Caruso (River Vale, NJ) recorded an infield ground out to score McKeon who reached on a walk earlier in the inning. Rookie
Jaclyn Giangrande singled to right field to pick up two RBI.
The Scarlet Raptors scored four runs of their own in the fifth inning when Valarie Bohn (Delran, NJ) walked to lead off the inning and scored on Kathleen Dreitlein's (Berkely Heights, NJ) infield single. Steph Skroski (Stratford, NJ) then singled home Brooke Keenan (Mt. Laurel, NJ) and Stephanie Klotz (Nutley, NJ) to close the gap at 12-4.
Ramapo starter
Lyndsay Buehler (River Vale, NJ) picked up her fifth win of the season striking out five in three innings of work while giving up only one hit and not walking a batter.
Cascino went 1-1 with two runs scored and one RBI while McKeon was a perfect 2-2 at the plate with two runs scored and three RBI.
In game two the Roadrunners scored three runs in the top of the first when Cascino doubled home Donnelly who walked and stole second to lead off the inning before junior
Kelly Schriber (Montclair, NJ) and McKeon hit back to back doubles for a 3-0 lead.
Rutgers-Camden got one back in the bottom half of the inning when Dreitlein singled to third base before advancing to second on Skroski's single to left field. Amanda D'Anduono (Lanoka Harbor, NJ) ripped a RBI double to center field scoring Dreitlein.
Ramapo came back and scored seven runs in the second inning which was highlighted by junior
Amanda Sansevere's (Hazlet, NJ) grand slam to left field which plated Farmer, Schriber and McKeon who each walked, singled and walked to get on base.
Rookie
Kristina Jimenez (West Milford, NJ) recorded her second win of the season striking out three in three innings of work.
Cascino stayed hot in game two as she was 2-3 with two runs scored and two RBI while Schriber was 2-3 with two runs scored and three RBI and Sansevere was 2-3 with one run scored and four RBI.
Ramapo returns to action tomorrow as they host NJAC rival William Paterson at 3:00 PM.
