Mahwah,NJ: The Ramapo College softball team swept a NJAC double header against The College of NJ today, 5-1 and 7-4. Ramapo raises their record to 13-3 overall and 2-0 in the NJAC while The College of NJ falls to 10-6 on the season and 0-2 in the NJAC.
Game 1: The College of NJ got on the board in the top of the third inning scoring one run on two hits. Ellen Seavers had an infield single and later scored on a single to center field by Katie Davenport.
Senior
Beth Choma (East Brunswick, NJ) tied the game up in the bottom half of the fourth inning as she ripped a homerun over the right field wall. Ramapo would take the lead in the bottom of the 5th as sophomore
Marilee Farmer (Toms River, NJ) hit a grand slam over the left field wall to put the Roadrunners up 5-1.
Junior pitcher
Katie Norton held the Lions to just four hits over seven innings of play to pick up her sixth win of the season.
Farmer was 1-3 in game one with four RBI's and Choma was 1-3 with two runs scored and one RBI.
Game 2: Ramapo got off to a quick lead as they scored five runs in the top of the first inning. Rookie
Katie Donnelly (North Haledon, NJ) singled to center before senior
Michele Rossi (Emerson, NJ) and junior
Lauren Cascino (New Windsor, NJ) reached base on an error and infield single respectively to load the bases. Donnelly scored on a pass ball before Farmer ripped a single to left field to pick up two RBI's. Rookie
Jen Vitorino (Old Bridge, NJ) singled home Choma before Farmer scored on a pass ball.
The Roadrunners scored one more in the top half of the second inning to make it 6-0. The College of NJ Lions came back with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the second when Rachel Greeby ripped a two run homerun over the right centerfield wall. The Lions picked up two more runs in the 4th as Jen Hughes doubled to lead off the inning and later scored on a pass ball. Greeby walked and scored on a misplayed ball at second base to make the score 6-4 in the favor of Ramapo.
Ramapo got one back in the 5th as a throwing error allowed sophomore
Amanda Sansevere (Hazlet, NJ) to advance to third and came home to score as the Lion's catcher dropped the ball on the play at the plate. Ramapo held the Lions in the final two innings to pick up the win.
Senior starting pitcher Marisa Marino (Wayne, NJ) picked up the win, allowing four runs (three earned) and striking out two in 3.1 innings of work. Junior
Heather Camb (Totowa, NJ) pitched 2.2 scoreless innings with one strikeout. Norton came into the seventh with runners on first and second and no outs and recorded a strikeout and two groundouts to pick up her first save of the season.
Choma went 1-2 with one run scored and one RBI in game two while Farmer went 1-3 with one run scored and two RBI's. Donnelly went 1-3 with two runs scored and Cascino went 1-2 with a run scored.
The Roadrunners return to action as they travel to take on NJAC rival Rutgers-Camden in a double header on Tuesday, April 3rd with a starting time of 3:30 PM.
