RAMAPO SOFTBALL SPLITS WITH NJAC RIVAL TCNJ

Mahwah , NJ : The Ramapo College softball team split a double header today against the College of New Jersey, 8-4 and 2-8. Ramapo finishes the day with a 12-8 record overall 3-3 in the NJAC, while the College of New Jersey finishes the day with a 19-8 record overall and 4-2 in the NJAC.

Game 1: The College of New Jersey jumped out to an early 2-0 in the top of the first inning when senior Kristen Zimmerman doubled home senior Siobhan Scullin and sophomore Jess Kohut singled home Zimmerman. Ramapo answered back with one run in the bottom half of the inning. The bases were loaded when rookie LAUREN CASCINO (New Windsor, NY) was hit by a pitch scoring sophomore MICHELLE ROSSI (Emerson, NJ). In the bottom of the third inning ROSSI and junior ANDREA PASTIGLIONE (Southern California, CA) both singled putting runners on first and second. Junior LISA RIZZO (Dumont, NJ) then reached first base on an error. Sophomore BETH CHOMA (East Brunswick, NJ) had a RBI fielder's choice to score ROSSI. Rookie AMANDA JONES (Rutherford, NJ) then singled home PASTIGLIONE for the final run of the inning. Both teams held each other scoreless until the top of the 6th inning when junior Kristen Meister doubled home a run. She then stole third and came home on an error. In the bottom of the 6th Ramapo answered back with five runs on three hits. JONES singled and stole second. She later scored when sophomore GEMMA CHALKLEY (West Milford, NJ) bunted and the throw sailed wide of first base. CHALKLEY scored on an error by the shortstop. Junior ERICA MOORE (Hazlet, NJ) then had an infield hit which put runners at first and third. MOORE and MONDADORI both scored on errors from the catcher. RIZZO then doubled home PASTIGLIONE bringing the score to 8-4. The Ramapo defense then had a 1-2-3 7th inning to close the game out with the win.

Sophomore pitcher MARISSA MARINO (Wayne, NJ) hurled a complete game with three strikeouts bringing her record to 3-2. RIZZO was 2 for 4 with one RBI. ROSSI and PASTIGLIONE were both 1 for 3 with and two runs scored. JONES was 2 for 3 with one run score and one RBI.

For the College of NJ, Zimmerman was 3 for 4 with one run scored and one RBI and Venetucci was 2 for 3 with one run scored.

Game 2: In the bottom of the first inning the College of the NJ scored three runs on four hits. Junior Kristen Meister doubled to lead off the inning and advanced to third on a groundout. Senior Kristen Zimmerman then had a RBI single to left. Sophomore Jess Kohut then ripped a RBI double to centerfield. Sophomore Kristin Boyer then singled to right field scoring Kohut. Ramapo answered back in the top of the second inning when CASCINO ripped a homerun over the left field wall, brining the score to 3-1. In the bottom half of the inning the College of NJ scored one run on one hit to bring the score 4-1. In the top half of the fourth the roadrunners scored one run when CHOMA doubled home CASCINO who reached base on a single. In the bottom of the 5th inning bases were loaded for Kristen Zimmerman as she hit a grand slam to bring the score to 8-2. The Lions held the roadrunners scoreless in the 6th and 7th innings to hang onto the win.

Senior Jessica Donohue raises her record to 11-1 on the season. She gave up six hits in seven innings and only 2 runs scored, both earned with one strikeout. Meister was 2 for 3 with two runs scored. Siobhan Scullin and Christina Lizzi were both 1 for 3. Zimmerman was 2 for 3 with two runs scored and five RBI's.

Rookie HEATHER CAMB (Totowa, NJ) took the loss for Ramapo pitching two innings, giving up four earned runs on five hits. Rookie LAUREN DEBOLD (Bloomfield, NJ) pitched three innings giving up four earned runs with one strikeout. PASTIGLIONE pitched the final inning facing just three batters and striking out two. CASCINO was 2 for 3 with two runs scored and one RBI and CHOMA was 1 for 3 with one RBI.

The Roadrunners return to action on Monday April, 11th when they host Nyack College at 3:00PM.
