RAMAPO SWEEPS NYACK IN MAWHAH, 4-1 and 1-0

Mahwah, NJ : The Ramapo College softball team swept a non-conference double header today in Mahwah, 4-1 and 1-0 against the Warriors of Nyack College. The Roadrunners raise their overall record to 15-8 and the Warriors fall to 5-15.

Game 1: Nyack jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning when Brittney Cawley (Peckville, PA ) hit a home run to left. Ramapo answered back in the bottom half of the inning with one run of their own. Junior centerfielder ERICA MOORE (Hazlet, NJ ) lead off the inning with a single to left and then stole second. She was advanced on a groundout and scored when junior catcher LISA RIZZO (Dumont, NJ ) singled past the shortstop. In the bottom half of the second inning the Roadrunners MOORE and sophomore shortstop MICHELLE ROSSI (Emerson, NJ ) both walked putting runners on first and second. Junior leftfielder ANDREA PASTIGLIONE (Southern California, CA) then roped a single to center field scoring MOORE. Rookie LAUREN CASCINO (New Windsor, NY) hit a single past second base scoring ROSSI. Ramapo tacked on another run in the bottom of the sixth as MOORE singled to left and stole second. She was moved to third as ROSSI had a sac bunt. PASTIGLIONE then ripped single to center scoring MOORE to bring the score to 4-1. The Roadrunners then held the Warriors scoreless in the top of the seventh to hold onto the win.

Rookie pitcher HEATHER CAMB pitched a complete game, firing 5 strikeouts raising her record to 3-3.

MOORE was a perfect 3 for 3 at the plate with a double and two singles and three runs scored. PASTIGLIONE was 2 for 3 with one RBI, and CASCINO was also a perfect 2 for 2 at the plate with one RBI.

For the Warriors Cawley was 1 for 3, with a homerun, and one RBI. Leah Malinowski (Farmington, CT ) was 1 for 2. Kristen Jacobs (Hawthorne, NJ ) pitched a complete game for Nyack giving up four earned runs in 6innings of work with one strikeout.

Game 2: The Roadrunners and the Warriors both held each other scoreless until the bottom of the seventh. Sophomore second basemen GINNY O'BRIEN (Emerson, NJ ) stepped to the plate one out and the bases loaded and ripped a line drive single to center scoring CASCINO with the winning run. Both teams showed stellar defense throughout the game.

Rookie pitcher LAUREN DEBOLD (Bloomfield, NJ ) pitched 4.1 innings earning the no decision. She held the Warriors to only four hits with two strikeouts and no walks. PASTIGLIONE pitched the final 2.2 innings picking up the win. She gave up only two hits with two strikeouts and no walks.

CASCINO ended the day perfect at the plate going 3-3 in the second game with one run scored. CHOMA, PASTIGLIONE, MOORE were all 1-3 at the plate. O'BRIEN picked up the game winning single in the 7th to finish the day at 1-3 with one RBI.

Cawley was 3 for 4 and Wendy Espinal (Santiago, DR) was 2 for 3. Lauren Jacobs took the loss, firing a complete game, striking out five with no walks.

The Roadrunners return to action tomorrow as they head to Rutgers-Newark for an NJAC doubleheader beginning at 3:30PM.
