RAMAPO SOFTBALL OPENS THE SEASON 3-3 IN FLORIDA

Osceola , FL : The Ramapo College softball team opened their 2005 season in Osceola, Florida posting three wins and three losses in three days of softball action. Ramapo first posted a 5-9 loss to Denison College before earning their first win of the year, 13-0 over Hamilton. Day two brought a 10-0 win over Eastern Connecticut and a 1-4 loss to Simpson before posting a 0-9 loss to Fontbonne and a 6-0 shut out victory over Macalester on Sunday, March 20th.

March 18th - Game 1: Denison 9, Ramapo 5
The game remained scoreless until the third inning when Denison ripped three hits scoring two runs off sophomore pitcher MARISSA MARINO (Wayne, NJ ). The Roadrunners fought back in the bottom of the inning when junior ERICA MOORE (Hazlet, NJ ) drove a triple and later scored when sophomore MICHELE ROSSI (Emerson, NJ ) grounded out to short. Denison took a 3-1 lead in the fourth and Ramapo grabbed it back, 4-3 in the bottom of the inning posting three runs on three hits with one error. LISA RIZZO (Dumont, NJ) singled to lead off, ELIZABETH CHOMA (East Brunswick, NJ) followed with a single of her own, LEAH MONDADORI (Emerson, NJ) drove a two run single and then came home on an error by the centerfielder. In the top of the seventh, Denison posted two runs taking the lead and Ramapo tied the game in the bottom of the inning sending the game into extra innings. Denison opened the eighth with four runs on four hits with one error and the Roadrunners were unable to fight back dropping their first match-up of the 2005 season, 9-5. MOORE hit 2-4 with one run while RIZZO went 2-4 and CHOMA 2-3 with one run of her own. ANDREA PASTIGLIONE (Southern California, CA) posted one hit on five at bats with one run in the loss.

March 18th - Game 2: Ramapo 13, Hamilton 0
In five short innings, Ramapo posted 13 runs on 15 hits dropping Hamilton 13-0 in Florida. Rookie pitchers HEATHER CAMB (Totowa, NJ ) and LAUREN DEBOLD (Bloomfield, NJ ) along with junior pitcher PASTIGLIONE held Hamilton to just two hits in the game combining for four strike outs. The Roadrunners took an 8-0 lead after just two short innings with rookie LAUREN CASCINO (New Windsor, NJ) and KENDALL PATTON (Hammonton, NJ ) hitting perfect in the game, 2-2. PATTON posted one run and two RBI while CASCINO added one run of her own. ROSSI went 2-3 with two runs and two RBI and GEMMA CHALKLEY (West Milford, NJ) posted two hits on four at bats in the win.

March 19th - Game 3: Ramapo 10, Eastern Connecticut 0
Ramapo dropped Eastern Connecticut 10-0 in five innings posting ten runs on eight hits. MARINO and CAMB combined for a perfect game giving up no hits and no walks striking out two. The Roadrunners posted one run in the first and two more in the second leading by three going into the third inning. In the third, RIZZO walked to lead off, CASCINO singled, AMANDA JONES (Rutherford, NJ ) walked and MARINO reached on an error bringing in the first run of the inning. MONDADORI ripped a double driving in two, MOORE singled, ROSSI reached on an error, PASTIGLIONE grounded out driving in one, and after a few passed balls an wild pitches, Ramapo posted three more runs taking a 10-0 lead. After one-two-three fourth and fifth innings, Ramapo earned the second win of the year with a 10-0 victory over Eastern Connecticut. ROSSI hit 2-3 with two runs and one RBI while CASCINO and MONDADORI hit 2-3 with one run and 1-3 with two runs and two RBI respectively.

March 19th - Game 4: Simpson 4, Ramapo 1
In a close game four, Ramapo opened the top of the first with one run on two hits after MOORE doubled to lead off and RIZZO singled to drive in MOORE taking a 1-0 lead. In the second, Simpson drove two hits scoring three runs on one Ramapo error taking a 3-1 lead after one. Simpson held Ramapo scoreless for the remaining innings and scored insurance in the third with one run on one hit with one error dropping Ramapo, 4-1. MOORE hit 1-3 and scored the one run while CASCINO went 2-3 and JONES, MONDADORI and GINNY O'BRIEN (Emerson, NJ) all recorded one hit on three at bats in the loss. PASTIGLIONE pitched the entire game striking out three and walking four falling to 0-1.

March 20th - Game 5: Fontbonne 9, Ramapo0
In a 9-0 loss to Fontbonne, Ramapo struggled to get the bat on the ball posting only two hits in the loss. JONES and MONDADORI ripped the lone shots both hitting 1-2 in the match-up. MARINO struck out zero nd walked two pitching 3.1 innings recording the loss. CAMB steeped in to pitch for the final 2.2 innings striking out one and waking two, letting up five hits and four runs.

March 20th - Game 6: Ramapo 6, Macalester 0
Ramapo wrapped up the day with a 6-0 victory over Macalester improving to 3-3 so far this season. Ramapo scattered their six runs across the seven innings taking a 2-0 lead after the second inning and a 4-0 lead after three. In the second, JONES and CASCINO both scored on an error by the first baseman after singling and reaching on a fielder's choice respectively to get on base. In the third inning, CASCINO drove in two runs on a single giving Ramapo a 4-0 edge. The Roadrunner's final runs came in the fourth and fifth inning after ROSSI ripped a triple and scored on a throw in the fourth and CHOMA crossed home plate after singled to lead off the inning on a DEBOLD single giving Ramapo the 6-0 win. CAMB earned the win striking out three and walking one in 3.0 innings while DEBOLD stepped in and pitched the final four striking out two and walking none. Each let up two hits.

The Roadrunners will return to action tomorrow as they take on Tuesday, March 22nd as they take on Emory and Henry and UW-Eau Claire at 4:10 PM and 6:00 PM respectively.
