Mahwah , NJ : The Ramapo College softball team played host to the Purple Pride of Nyack College today at the Athletic Center in a non-conference match-up earning two victories, 6-1 and 10-2. The Roadrunners improve to 30-4 while the Purple Pride fall to 11-23.
Game 1: Nyack took a 1-0 lead in the 1st after Kirsten Rispin (Fairview , PA ) singled to center and later scored on a double to left by Wendy Espinal (Santiago , DR). The Roadrunners fought back in the bottom of the inning scoring three, taking a 3-1 lead. ERICA MOORE (Hazlet , NJ ) walked, ANDREA PASTIGLIONE (Southern California , CA) singled, and MICHELE ROSSI (Emerson , NJ ) ripped a single of her own to lead off. MOORE crossed the plate on a single by senior MICHELLE MICKLOS (Tuxedo, NY) and PASTIGLIONE scored on a wild pitch. LISA RIZZO (Dumont , NJ ) drove in ROSSI ending the inning, 3-1 over Nyack. Ramapo added one more in the 3rd and two in the 5th dropping the Purple Pride, 6-1 in Mahwah.
ROSSI hit 3-3 with three runs and MICKLOS went 2-3 with three RBI in the game. MOORE batted 1-2 with two runs and RIZZO knocked in two of her own. Rookie pitcher MARISSA MARINO (Wayne , NJ ) struck out one and walked one pitching the complete, three-hit game. MARINO improves to 8-1 on the year.
Espinal posted one hit on three at bats with one RBI while Rispin went 1-3 with one run. Lee Blackburn (Tallmadge , OH ) recorded the loss striking out none and walking one, falling to 1-5.
Game 2: Ramapo posted the first run of the game in the bottom of the 3rd when ALICIA CRUZ (East Brunswick , NJ ) singled to lead off the inning and scored on a single to left by PASTIGLIONE. Nyack took back the lead in the 4th with runs by Rispin and Brittany Cawley (Peckville, PA) before Ramapo took control in the bottom of the inning scoring five runs, taking a 6-2 lead. CRUZ reached on an error to score COURTNEY GAMBETTA (Woodbridge , NJ ) and PASTIGLIONE reached on an error by the left fielder bringing in CRUZ and rookie GEMMA CHALKLEY (West Milford , NJ ). ROSSI doubled driving in PASTIGLIONE and ELIZABETH CHOMA (East Brunswick , NJ ) ending the inning with a four run edge. GAMBETTA and CHALKLEY each added another run in the 5th and MICKLOS ripped a two-run homer over the center field wall in the 6th defeating the Purple Pride, 10-2.
ROSSI hit a perfect 3-3 with two RBI and PASTOIGLIONE went 2-4 with one run and three RBI. CHALKLEY and GAMBETTA posted two hits on three at bats with two runs each and CRUZ went 1-2 with two runs and two RBI. MICKLOS batted 1-4 including a home run with one run and two RBI.
PASTIGLIONE earns the win improving to 5-0, striking out one and walking none in six innings while Lauren Jacobs (Hawthorne , NJ ) records the loss falling to 7-8 striking out one in 5 2/3 innings.
Ramapo returns to action on Thursday, April 29th when they host the 2004 New Jersey Athletic Conference Tournament. #1 Ramapo takes on #4 seeded Rutgers Camden at 1:00 PM.
