RAMAPO SOFTBALL PITCHING STAFF SHINES IN SWEEP OVER KEAN

Mahwah, NJ:  The Ramapo College softball team swept the NJAC opener over visiting Kean University today at the Athletic Center, 9-2 in game one and 1-0 in game two. The Roadrunners move to 15-3 overall, 2-0 in the NJAC while the Cougars move to 11-11 overall and 0-2 in the league.

Game #1: Ramapo 9, Kean 2
Kean jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the top of the third inning after Hailey Kilpatrick knocked in Nikki Lusnia in the second with an RBI single before Colleen Downey lifted a sac fly in the third to score Brianna Sciulli with an unearned run in the third, 2-0. Ramapo would take a 4-2 lead in their half of the third. With one out in the third, Sonali Rodriguez, Lisa Milsom and Clay'le Correa – Vanness each worked to load the bases before Angelina Ciesnicki worked a walk to push home Rodriguez for the team's first run. Kori Gargiulo would lift a sac fly to left field which allowed Milsom to score before Ciesnicki and Correa-Vanness moved up one base on a wild pitch. Paley Sullivan laced a double to the base of the left field wall as both runners scored to give Ramapo the 4-2 lead. In the fourth inning, Milsom drove in Aimee Notaro with an RBI ground out before Correa-Vaness plated Emily Ehrmann with a single of her own, 6-2. Ehrmann singled through the right side of the infield earlier in the inning to reach base. In the sixth, Gargiulo led off with an infield hit and moved to second on a wild pitch before Notaro drew a walk. Ehrmann then belted a double to left field as both runners scored to extend the Roadrunner lead, 8-2. In the sixth, Ciesnicki singled to left field and later scored on Alex Hastings' RBI single to center field, 9-2.

Gabby Morgan (6-1) struck out a career high of 12 including two in the seventh to close out the game. Morgan walked none and scattered two hits in the complete game win. Ramapo tallied eight hits in the game as they were led by Ehrmann who finished 2-3 with two RBI and one run scored.

For Kean, Nikki Lusnia (7-5) struck out six, walked four and surrendered five hits and seven runs. Rielynn Carey worked the final two innings of action, scattering three hits while letting up two runs with two walks. Lusnia and Kilpatrick each collected a hit for Kean.

Game #2: Ramapo 1, Kean 0
Correa-Vanness ripped a single to left field to lead off the bottom of the first, stole second and moved to third on Hannah Hensler's ground out. Paley Sullivan then beat out an infield single in the five-six hole which allowed Correa-Vanness to score, 1-0. The Ramapo pitching duo of Mikayla McJilton and Brooke Knight combined for a three-hit shutout. McJilton started the game working 1.1 innings with two strikeouts and no walks while letting up just one hit. Knight (7-1) earned the win and worked the final 5.2 innings. She struck out eight, walked two and let up just two hits. Four different Roadrunners earned a hit in game two.

Samantha Raymond (4-4) struck out five, walked two and let up four hits and one run in the circle for Kean. Carey led the team at the plate in the second game finishing 2-3.

The Roadrunners return to action on Tuesday, March 31st when they host New Jersey City University in NJAC action at 3pm.
