Clermont, FL: The Ramapo College softball team split a pair of games today at THE Spring Games as they moved to 10-3 overall. The Roadrunners defeated New York University, 4-2 while they fell to the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, 4-1.
Game #1 Ramapo 4, NYU 2
Kori Gargiulo led off the top off of the first inning with a single to center field before moving to second on a single from
Hannah Hensler. With two outs
Alex Hastings walked to load the bases before Amiee Notaro singled home Gargiulo for the game's first run. Notaro lifted a sac fly to center field which plated Hensler to push the score to 2-0 in the top of the third. With two outs in the sixth inning, Hensler walked to load the bases before
Paley Sullivan was hit by a pitch to force home Gargiulo.
Alex Hastings then beat out an infield hit which allowed
Avery Kontura to score, 4-0. In the bottom of the sixth inning, Sarah Huang connected on a two RBI double to cut the Ramapo lead in half, 4-2. In the bottom of the seventh, the Violets brought the game-winning run to the plate with two outs and runners on second and third. Ramapo relief pitcher
Gabby Morgan got out of the game inducing an infield ground out and pop up to end the game.
Mikayla McJilton (3-1) earned the win in relief for Ramapo as she struck out two, walked one and let up five hits and two runs (one earned). Morgan earned the save in 1.2 innings of work as she struck out one and surrendered just two hits. Gargiulo finished 3-4 with two runs scored while Sullivan finished 2-3 with one RBI. Notaro posted two RBI while Hastings tallied one.
Game #2 University of Wisconsin Stevens-Point 4, Ramapo 1
The Roadrunners took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning.
Angelina Ciesnicki drew a lead-off walk and moved to second on a Milson sac bunt. Following the second out of the inning, Kontura launched a double to right-center field which allowed Ciesnicki to score for the third inning lead. Ramapo hold the Pointers scoreless until the top of the seventh inning as the Wisconsin-Stevens Point bats got hot. Trinity Otto and Ashley Zygowski hit back-to-back solo home runs to center field to give the team a 2-1 lead with nobody out. Following a pitching change by the Roadrunners, one out was recorded before Morgan Harwood worked a walk. Emily Pietrzykowski. UWSP relief pitcher, Ashley Zygowski, recorded back-to-back strikeouts before inducing an infield pop-up to end the game. Zygowski (2-1), who entered the game in the third inning, earned the win in the circle as she struck out four, walked one and let up just two hits in the final three innings of action. Morgan Harwood started for the Pointers as she struck out seven, walked one and let up three hits and one run.
Brooke Knight (4-1) took the loss for Ramapo. She struck out three, walked one and let up four hits and two runs scored.
Gabby Morgan finished the game in the circle for Ramapo as she struck out one, walked one and let up two hits and two runs scored. Hastings finished 3-3 at the plate while Kontura and Morgan each collected one hit.
Ramapo returns to action on March 25th when they host Mount Saint Mary College for a non-conference double header starting at 3pm.
